Oregon State Vs Lehigh Preview (11-5-2022)

West coast, east coast, we get to see one of our top teams not far from the Pacific ocean against one of our top teams not all that far from the Atlantic. Oregon State is currently ranked #22 as Lehigh is ranked #26.

125 lbs
#7 Brandon Kaylor Vs #21 Jaret Lane

We have a great match here between an All American and an EIWA champion. Believe it or not, Lane has already defeated Kaylor in the past as he upended the Beaver 9-5 when the Mountain Hawks visited Corvallis first thing last season. Now that the dual takes place in Pennsylvania, he should be at even more of an advantage. If he is able to pull off the upset, it'll be a huge statement for the start of his senior season.

133 lbs
#31 Jason Shaner Jr Vs #29 Connor McGonagle

This will be a good match between two top 33 wrestlers. One of the matches that Lehigh needs to win if they are thinking about an upset over Oregon State.  A very evenly matched contest, at least on paper. Look for it to be a close one.

149 lbs
U.R. Triston Lara Vs #20 Manzona Bryant

Triston Lara is so much better than his current unranked status. I am very confident that by season's end he'll either be an NCAA qualifier or in the least prove himself to be a contender. Is he going to upset Manzona Bryant here? I wouldn't rule out the possibility.  What I do know, is that I would expect win or lose, that he'll show us that he does belong on the mat with him.

165 lbs
#25 Matt Olguin Vs #23 Brian Meyer

This is the type of match that you look most forward to in a close dual. These guys are neck and neck having already met on three other occasions. Thus far Meyer leads the series 2-1, but each match has been close. 2-0 & 9-7 decisions for the Mountain Hawk & a 3-1 tiebreaker for the Beaver. This could very well be the match that wins the dual for either team.

174 lbs
#32 Aaron Olmos Vs #30 Jake Logan

Yet another good match to look forward to in this West Vs East coast classic. The last time these two met, Logan took a 4-1 decision. I would look for the match to once again be close.

184 lbs
#6 Trey Munoz Vs #14 Tate Samuelson OR A.J. Burkhart

Whether Trey Munoz has Tate Samuelson or A.J. Burkhart, either way he has his work cut out for him. Thus far he's defeated Tate Samuelson by two 3-2 squeakers. Now he has to go into Samuelson's house & on his mat defeat him again. Considering that Samuelson is wanting to make a good first impression in his new home, I say easier said than done.  On the same hand, Munoz might end up facing Burkhart instead. This wouldn't be any easier of a challenge. No matter how you slice it, Munoz has to go to work on Saturday.

197 lbs
#33 Ryan Reyes Vs #8 Michael Beard

In my previews I was calling Michael Beard a potential dark horse for this year's national title. I think starting the season off, Reyes will be a good test for him. See where he's at and how he looks as we officially start the 22'-23' year.
