JT1Wrestle Takes A Look At Northeastern State 2026-2027

 

When Terry Pack took over the Southeast Community College wrestling program it took him all of, "it was a said & done thing by yesterday" to turn the Bobcats into the one of the top teams in the NJCAA nation. In year one they were top 10, crowning All-Americans.  In year two, they were 6th.  In year three, they brought home a silver trophy.  That's some serious accomplishment in a very short amount of time. 

Trust me, he's going to do the same in NCAA Division II with the Riverhawks of Northeastern State. 

Who's going to be their first superstars? Who's going to be their first Q's? Their first AA's?

We've seen it a few times in the past & I think there's a good chance we see it again with Zane Donley. I'm talking about guys that came up short of NJCAA All-American honors, but do earn All-American honors at a higher division.  Donley was R12 the past two NJCAA championships & has the potential & talent to achieve more during his last two seasons of collegiate wrestling than he did his first two.

Get used to seeing former NJCAA standouts getting their opportunity to shine in D2 at Northeastern State.  Sean Michael Gonzalez was 5th & 8th in the NJCAA nation.

The irony of this sport will never cease to amaze me.  Silas Foster, a two-time Indiana High School State place-winner placed twice while in high school.  His placements? 6th & 7th.  He earned NJCAA All-American honors last year.  What did he place? 5th.  Of course, right?  He was also a Plains District runner-up.  Anxious to see what he does in D2.

Spent the last two seasons at Long Island University & I believe Braden Brown is going to be one o those guys that enjoys the world of Division II wrestling immensely.  Looking forward to what he can do in D2. 

JT1Wrestle Takes A Look At UW-Parkside 2026-2027

 

Super Region V champions, Midwest Classic Champions & 2nd in the D2 nation, it's safe to say that 2025-2026 was a very successful year for UW-Parkside wrestling.  As we head into 2026-2027 the Rangers do lose a few of their stars, but they bring back a lot too. 

Gone are...

Shane Corrigan, who had an outstanding career for the white, green & black.  110 career wins, was 1st-1st-2nd-3rd at Super Region V, becoming a four-time NCAA D2 All-American & a NCAA D2 national champion.  7th-6th-5th-1st.  Was also a three-time Midwest Classic place-winner with 4th-3rd-2nd finishes. 

Matt Chi, talk about a utility hand. This kid was always there, anytime the Rangers called upon him. Never did make the NCAA D2 tournament, and certainly among the best on that list.  Was 4th-6th-4th at Super Region V.  98 career wins. 

Jalen Spuhler, an outstanding wrestler who captured D2 All-American honors three-time during his illustrious career. 4th-6th-3rd in the D2 nation.  112 carer wins & after placing 4th at the Midwest Classic as a freshman won two titles as a junior & senior. 

Jordan Blanchard who earned NCAA D2 qualification with a 3rd place showing at Super Region V.

Elon Rodriguez who split time with Matt Chi all season.  Took 7th at the Midwest Classic & won the Jim Koch. 

Brady Schuh who was 6th at the Midwest Classic.

Dolphins are usually good in the water, this one happens to excel on the mat.  12 wins for Drew Dolphin last year, including securing Iowa's Dru Ayala's shoulders to the mat at the 1:01 mark.

Sticking both James Wright & Elijah Lusk last season, it is clear that Troy Dolphin has his sights set on being an All-American in 2027.  Finishing one match shy of D2 qualification last year, he finished 2nd at the Findlay Open.

A super tough sophomore who will be hunting for a spot on the varsity this season. Emmett Nelson gave us a glimpse of what he is capable of placing 5th at the Midwest Classic last year.

When I had older brother Reece on JT1Wrestle, he informed me that little brother Easton was going to be very good & accomplish many things in his career. So far, so good.  Last year he went 25-6 on the season, making the Super V finals & finishing 4th in the D2 nation.  He also won Jim Koch, and made the finals of the Midwest Classic, as well as the Findlay Open.

JT1Wrestle Takes A Look At Pittsburgh-Johnstown 2026-2027

 

The Mountain Cats went 13-1 in duals last season, finishing 2nd at the Midwest Classic & 3rd at Super Region I.  It was a year full of a lot of ups & a few downs.  2026-2027 looks to be a season of many pros & many positives as UPJ returns a ton of talent. 

My heart goes out to Trevon Gray.  A career should never end the way his does.  Life at times can be unfair. However, as I've had to do at other times as a wrestling aficionado, I have to remind myself that wrestling is a journey, not a destination.  6th is not at all where Gray wanted to finish, with an injury at Super Region I, but he was still a three-time Super Region I champion & no one can take that away from him.  7th & 4th in the D2 nation during his career, 94 career wins & he won this year's Midwest Classic. 

Isaiah Vance also called it a career for the Mountain Cats & what an outstanding career he had.  99 career wins.  2nd-1st-2nd-3rd at Super Region I & 5th-2nd-8th in the D2 Nation.  A rare four-time Midwest Classic place-winner with 4th-1st-3rd-2nd finishes.

Best Duals of NCAA Division III 2026-2027

 

At this point Britt "The Seton Hall Pirate" Malinsky is probably sick of all the gratitude that I've been showing him as of late, but there are ironically two things in the wrestling media world that ring true at the exact same time.  Those who deserve thanks are rarely given it & incongruously at the same time we're sycophant heavy.  Everyone else seems to be a bit of apple polisher, might as well at least praise someone who actually deserves it. 

As said when I gave my opinion for the best duals in NJCAA, NAIA & NCAA Division II, I recognize & acknowledge the work that Pirate put in season after season giving us the week to week in collegiate wrestling.  He'll never get the thanks he probably deserves for that valuable service.  He has decided to only do NCAA Division I this year.  I respect that.  It is hard work. 

As you read this, keep in mind two things.  

1 - This is only 1 on 1 duals.  Dual tournaments & Dual events such as the NWCA National Duals in Cedar Falls will not be included.  We of course will not know who Vs who until those events actually take place. 

2 - These are just my opinion.  What I feel will be the best duals.  You may or may not agree.

2026-2027 is going to be a historical year for Quincy Hawks wrestling.  Perhaps in more than one way. 

We return four of our five Super Region IV place-winners from last season.

Callan Ivy, who came to Quincy a CCCAA place-winner for Chabot, finished off his career one match shy of NCAA D2 qualification.

The Houston, Texas native won 13 matches for the Hawks last season, earning a 5th place finish at Super Region IV

Sabian Russell

Sabian Russell made history last year by becoming the Hawks second Super Region IV champion in school history, as well as becoming the Hawks first two-time NCAA D2 qualifier.  4th-3rd-1st thus far at Super Region IV, in 2026-2027 he has the opportunity to become Quincy's first four-time place-winner, their first three-time D2 qualifier, and their first All-American.  79 career wins, could be the first to reach the 100+ win mile marker too.  Add in the fact that he was 7th at last year's Midwest Classic.

The sophomore had a very good first season of collegiate wrestling last year.  6th at Super Region IV, he won 25 matches in total, placing 3rd at Luther Hill, 4th at Service Salute & 5th at Kaufman-Brand.

The former NJCAA standout for Cloud County won 14 matches for the Hawks last season, placing 6th at Super Region IV.
