2023 NCAA Division III The Season: UW-Whitewater

The Warhawks do lose some stars from last year's squad but still return quite a bit of talent. Gone is NCAA Division III champion/three time qualifier Jarrit Shinhoster as well as 4th place in the Upper Midwest Regional Ryan Vedner & Cadin Koeppel who unfortunately had to medical forfeit out of the Regional tournament. All in all the Warhawks return a NCAA Division III qualifier & four Regional place-winners.

133 lbs
Ethan Pogorzelski

Going 15-12 on the season last year, Ethan "Pogo" Pogorzelski was 4th in the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) & 8th in the Upper Midwest Regional. He will look to improve in all areas, record & tournament placements this season.

141 lbs
Dakarai Clay      OR         Drew Nash

I do believe the 141 lbs spot for the Warhawks will remain Dakarai Clay's but I do think that Drew Nash will push him for the spot. Clay, an honor roll student was 24-10 last season, placing 4th in the WIAC & 7th in the Upper Midwest Regional. Nash himself took a 6th place finish at the WIAC & gave Ryan Fleck of Chicago, who placed 6th at the NCAA Division III championships one of his best matches of the season.  This will be a good wrestle-off.

149 lbs
Jake Buford

Another scholar athlete, Jake Buford heads into his senior season with an already impressive resume. 26-8 on the season last year he was a runner-up at the WIAC & 3rd in the Upper Midwest qualifying for the NCAA Division III championships. 3rd in the WIAC as a sophomore, he will look to win a conference title this season, as well as a Regional title going for his second national qualification.

165 lbs
Hayden Krein

A transfer from Northern Illinois, Hayden Krein only posted a 6-3 record last season, but in his six victories were some notable wins.  He stuck Augsburg's Max Sokolski in 1:57 & he defeated NCAA Division III qualifier Donovan Palmer of Baldwin Wallace 7-5.

197 lbs
Chad Richards

Chad Richards goes into his junior season after posting a 17-9 record & a 5th place finish at the Upper Midwest Regional this past season.
