2023 NCAA Division II The Season: Central Oklahoma

That wall speaks for itself. Far longer than I've been around. Probably far longer than I'll be around, The Central Oklahoma Broncos have been a top team in NCAA Division II wrestling. The tradition is history, the tradition is now, the tradition is the future. Yesterday, Today & Tomorrow, UCO is either on top of the DII mountain or they're always close to it. The Midwest Classic Champions as well as the Super Region IV champions, who took runner-up honors at the NCAA Division II championships return four All Americans, one of which was a national champion from last year's squad.

Gone are....

Paxton Rosen a two time All American who was 4th this past season and 6th in 21'.

Tanner Cole, 3rd in 21', R12 this past season.

Heath Gray, two time NCAA Division II champion who won titles this past season & in 21'.

Thaddeus Long, a 5th place All American in 21' who also qualified in 20'.

125 lbs
Studd Morris

Filling in the shoes of a talent like Paxton Rosen will be no easy task but I am anxious to see how Studd Morris fares this season. He was 13-5 last year.

141 lbs
Nate Keim

If he's not the, he's one of the best wrestlers in NCAA Division II wrestling the past three years to not make the NCAA Division II tournament. A qualifier in 2019, he has heartbreakingly finished 4th at the Super Region three seasons in a row.  He's a top 8 wrestler as far as I'm concerned & hopefully this season he proves it.

149 lbs
Brik Filippo

Brik Filippo enters his final season as  Bronco having posted a 28-4 record, winning a Super Region IV title & taking home 5th place All American honors from the NCAA Division II tournament.  He also qualified in 20'.

157 lbs
Ty Lucas              OR      Gabe Johnson

Got two talented wrestlers here at 157 lbs. Ty Lucas An All American in 2021 with a 5th place finish, was a match away from earning his second DII All American honor this past season. 19-5 on the year, he was also a qualifier in 2002.  Gabe Johnson, was an NCAA qualifier himself in 21'.

165 lbs
Hunter Jump        OR   Tre'Vaughn Craig

Another weight class with two talented wrestlers for the Broncos is 165 lbs.  Hunter Jump was 22-7 last season, finishing one match shy of NCAA Division II qualification with a 4th place finish at the Super Region IV. Tre'Vaughn Craig, a defensive back on the football team was 12-3 on the season last year. 4th himself in the Region in 2020, he took 7th place All American Hunter Mullin of Western Colorado into sudden victory.

174 lbs
Alex Kauffman

29-8 on the season, Alex Kauffman took a 3rd place finish at the Super Region IV & a 6th place finish at the NCAA Division II championships.

197 lbs
Dalton Abney           OR   Emmanuel Skillings

As far as I'm concerned we are looking at one of the best wrestlers in NCAA Division II when we look at Dalton Abney. The Two time NCAA Division II champion is a favorite to win a third title this season & I can't see anyone stopping him. To think, the future orthopedic surgeon is only a junior too. Could we be looking at  four time DII champ in the making? I think so.  Helping him to achieve these goals is tough backup Emmanuel Skillings who was 9-1 on the season last year.

HWT
Shawn Streck          OR    Christian Arriola

12-2 on the season last year, Shawn Streck won a Super Region IV title & earned 6th place All American honors at the NCAA Division II championships. Backing him this season will be Christian Arriola who was 16-9 on the year.
