2023 NCAA Division III The Season: UW- La Crosse

UW-La Crosse is another team that returns a ton of talent. Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) champions they return four NCAA Division III qualifiers, two of which were all Americans & 7 Regional Place-winners.  Graduation only took Sawyer Sarbacker, a two time NCAA Division III qualifier.

125 lbs
Brandon Murphy

A little bit of luck on his side, Brandon Murphy saw the NCAA Division III tournament last season as an alternate as he placed 4th at the Upper Midwest Regional. He'll look for another qualification this season.

141 lbs
Tyler Shackle

It was very surprising that Tyler Shackle failed to make a top 8 showing in last year's Upper Midwest Regional considering his overall body of work. Among his victories a 9-8 decision of NCAA qualifier Javen Estrada, a 10-1 major decision of Drew Nash of UW-Whitewater & a 15-0 technical fall over Dakarai Clay of UW-Whitewater.  A WIAC champion in 2021, he was 3rd this past season. I'd be very shocked if he falls out of a top  8 showing in the Regional this season.

149 lbs
Jake Mandt

4th in the WIAC & 6th in the Upper Midwest Regional, Jake Mandt goes into his final season as an Eagle having posted an 18-14 record this past season.

157 lbs
Nolan Hertel

Two time WIAC champion Nolan Hertel had himself an outstanding season last year. 23-5 he won an Upper Midwest Regional title, taking 5th place All American honors at the NCAA Division III Championships.

165 lbs
Seth Brossard    OR    Noah Leisgang

A two time NJCAA All American (4th in 20' & 3rd in 21') Seth Brossard earned his fist NCAA Division III All American honor last season with a 7th place finish. Also an Upper Midwest Regional champion he went 27-4 on the season. He will be challenged by Noah Leisgang, who had 22 victories on the season last year.

174 lbs
Isaac Gust

20-12 on the season, Isaac Gust was 4th in the WIAC & 6th at the Upper Midwest Regional.

184 lbs
Kalyn Jahn

A WIAC runner-up last season, Kalyn Jahn was 5th in the Upper Midwest Regional on a 17-6 record. He will look to win a WIAC title this season as well as earn NCAA Division III qualification.

HWT
Ben Kawcyznski

The youth among a team full of juniors & seniors, sophomore Ben Kawcynski had himself a very nice showing as a freshman this past season. 28-7 on the year, this including a WIAC title, a third place showing at the Upper Midwest Regional & a R12 finish at the NCAA Division III championships. May it be added that among his wins, he did defeat NCAA DIII Champ Jordan Lemcke of UW-Oshkosh 6-4.
