2023 NCAA Division III The Season: UW-Eau Claire

The Blugolds have a very tough team that returns four of five NCAA Division III qualifiers from last season, two of which were one match shy of All American honors.  Gone is Chase Schmidt who had an outstanding end to his career with a 3rd place finish at the DIII nationals.  Also gone is 2020 NCAA DIII qualifier Evan Lawrence & Mason Hawkins, who both finished one match shy of qualification last season.

125 lbs
Jack Marley

Two time Upper-Midwest Regional place-winner Jack Marley enters his senior season after posting a 21-17 record last year capturing a 7th place finish (was 8th in 2020). He will look to become a three time Regional place-winner this year.

133 lbs
Tyler Fleetwood

In his first season as a Blugold (transferred from Wartburg) Tyler Fleetwood earned runner-up finishes at both the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) tournament as well as the Upper-Midwest Regional. As he'll look to win both tournaments this year & contend for All American honors.

141 lbs
Zach Sato OR Gabriel Pugh OR Markus Brown

The Blugolds have some serious talent at 141 lbs & they are all sophomores.  Zach Sato had a tremendous freshman campaign last season going 38-8 in route to capturing a WIAC title & his first NCAA Division III qualification with a third place finish at the Upper Midwest Regional. Gabriel Pugh in his freshman campaign had 17 victories including two over Augsburg's Cade Willis by scores of 5-4 & 8-6 sudden victory.  Not to be outdone, Markus Brown had 19 victories last year as a freshman including defeating Ethan Renager of Wheaton twice (once by fall) & Clay Dakarai of UW-Whitewater.  For the record Sato defeated Brown 2-1 tiebreaker last year.

149 lbs
Jake Drexler

Two time NCAA Division III qualifier Jake Drexler enters his senior season looking to earn All American honors after finishing the R12 last year.  33-12 on the season he was an Upper Midwest Regional Champion. He'll look to earn another Regional title as well as his first WIAC title this season as well. He was 3rd last year & 2nd in 2020.

Only a sophomore, Jared Stricker had himself a very impressive season last year. 41-11 on the record, he won a WIAC title & finished 3rd at the Upper Midwest Regional while finishing one match shy of earning his first NCAA Division III All American honor.

184 lbs
Chase Melton

It won't be easy to replace a guy like Evan Lawrence, but Chase Melton is more than cutout for the job. 32-14 on the season last year, one of his most impressive victories was a 3:40 fall over UW-La Crosse 2021 All American Isaac Gust.
