I think this is going to be an interesting season for the Peacocks. While they only had one NCAA Division II qualifier this past season, I think they could have quite a few this season.
4th at the Super Region V, junior Kaden Anderlik was 16-4 on the season last year. He will be challenged for the spot by Donny Schmit who was a Super Region place-winner himself in 2021. Should be a good wrestle-off.
141 lbs Tate Murty |
An All American in 2021 with a 6th place finish, Tate Murty was 14-4 on the season last year with a 3rd place finish at the Super Region V. The Senior will look to regain All American honors this season.
149 lbs Eric Faught |
Junior Eric Faught went 15-4 on the season last year. A qualifier in 2021 he was 6th in the Super Region V.
157 lbs Chase Luensman |
Two time NCAA Division II qualifier Chase Luensman missed out on a third qualification this past season with a 6th place finish at the Super Region V. He will look to earn a third qualification this year. He was 19-5 on the year.
197 lbs Zach Ryg |
He's a guy I would definitely keep an eye on this season. 3rd at the NCAA Division II tournament in 2021, he had an assortment of victories over top wrestlers last season. 8-3 over R12 finisher Treyton Cacek of Northern State. A 3-2 victory over qualifier Matt Kaylor of Mary. 6-3 over two time qualifier Bryce Walker of UNC-Pembroke. Not to mention he also defeated three time qualifier Donald Negus of Colorado Mesa & 2021 All American Joseph Reimers of Nebraska-Kearney. I can see Ryg having an outstanding season.
HWT Jordan Baumler |
Truth of the matter is, sometimes guys just have bad tournaments. It sucks, but it is a reality of our sport. It's unfortunate that it happened to be the Super Region V, but you can't change the past. What you can do is prepare for the future. Senior Jordan Baumler has already proven his potential with such victories as his 8-7 upending of two time All American A.J. Cooper of Fort Hayes State. Look for a top six Region showing or better out of the Peacock this season.
