As is the case with some other teams in NCAA Division II wrestling, the Wolves lose some talent from last season & they return some talent from last season. Gone is five time NCAA DII qualifier Isiah Royal who after making the finals in 19' & winning a national title in 21' finished his career off with a 4th place finish. Also gone is All American Caleb Spears (7th last season), qualifier Talon Sietz, 20' qualifier Josh Blatt & 21' All American (8th) Will Evans. I'll also not 100% positive on the status of Kaleb Haven. Back are three DII qualifiers with the potential to have as many as six this season.
125 lbs Evan Carrigan OR Zach Shupp |
A lot of talent here at collegiate wrestling's lowest weight class. Evan Carrigan, a two time state champ out of South Carolina had himself a very nice freshman season last year earning a runner-up finish at the Super Region II tournament. Zach Shupp a transfer from Central Michigan was a NCAA Division II qualifier in 2021. Of interest, while at CMU he managed a 6th place finish at a rather competitive Michigan State Open. This should be an excellent wrestle-off.
133 lbs Timothy Decatur |
The two time state champ out of North Carolina may have ended the season with more losses than he did wins, but never the less he still managed NCAA Division II qualification with a 3rd place finish at the Super Region II's.
141 lbs Devan Moore |
Georgia native Devan Moore came close to NCAA Division II qualification when he finished 4th at the Super Region II's last season.
174 lbs Nolan Wheeler |
Another Georgia native as well as a two time state champion, Nolan Wheeler took sometime to adjust to the collegiate grind but once he found himself signs of potential began to shine. 4th in the Super Region II despite an 8-14 record, he wound up one match shy of NCAA DII qualification.
184 lbs Armando Acosta |
The Florida native was 5th at the Super Region II last season.
HWT Devon Rice |
The South Carolina native was 5th at the Super Region II last season.
