2023 NCAA Division II The Season: Maryville

A friend of mine and I were talking the other day which of the major cities in the United States was the friendliest towards wrestling, collegiately speaking. While I do plan on doing a massive research to find out exactly which city it is, I wouldn't be surprised if I find out that it is St. Louis. Among the colleges in Gateway to the West to offer our great sport, Maryville is one of the best.  Saints return two NCAA Division III qualifiers & five Region place-winners.  Taylor Jokerst an NCAA DIII qualifier in 2019 has to my knowledge graduated.

125 lbs
Anthony Pisciotta

Three time Scholar All American Anthony Pisciotta has twice been 4th at the Super Region, thus missing out on NCAA Division III qualification both in 20' & last season. 18-8 on the year, this will be his final opportunity to make the national tournament.

149 lbs
Tyler Stegall

Another Saint who has twice been 4th in the Super Region, Tyler Stegall posted a 13-6 record last season, his most impressive victory a 1:30 fall over McKendree's Noah Villarreal.

174 lbs
Bret Heil

Junior Bret Heil was 13-10 on the season placing 5th at the Super Region IV. He was also 5th in the Region in 2020.

184 lbs
Joey Williams

28-11 on the season, Joey Williams qualified for the NCAA DIII championships with a 3rd place finish at the Super Region IV.

197 lbs
Chase Stewall           OR     Donavan Whitted

21-8 on the season, sophomore Chase Stewall qualified for his first NCAA Division III appearance with a 3rd place finish at the Super Region IV. Backing him this season will be fellow sophomore Donavan Whitted. A Texas native whos favorite novel is The Outsiders by S.E. Hinton & who names Roman Bravo-Young as his favorite collegiate wrestler put up impressive victories over both UW-Parksides's Rodsean Graham as well as McKendree's Vinne Scaletta last season.

HWT
Ryan Herman

Another tough sophomore for the Saints, Ryan Herman was 16-7 on the season last year capturing a 6th place finish at the Super Region IV.
