Four (Or More) Time State Champions in College = South Dakota

I thought I was done with my series Four (Or More) Time State Champions in College but there was wrestling fan who really wanted to see one written up for South Dakota. I told him I really wanted to do one for South Dakota but I couldn't find the information in order do to one. He provided that information to me.  So with a proper thank you to fellow wrestling fan Rob Root, here is South Dakota.

Kirk Wallman

Get used to the last name Wallman, because you're going to be reading it a lot throughout this article. South Dakota's first six time state champion was Kirk Wallman of Freeman who won his titles from 84'-89'. He went 201-0 during his high school career. He began wrestling collegiately for Minnesota but did not enjoy life in the big city of Minneapolis. He went to transfer to Iowa State but was not given his release from Minnesota. By the time he was eligible to wrestle, he had already been out for two seasons. He decided to not continue his collegiate wrestling career.

Logan Storley

The Mount Rushmore State's only other six time champion is Logan Storley who won his titles for Webster from 06'-11'. He wrestled collegiately for Minnesota where he had an outstanding career for the Gophers. A four time All American he was 6th as a freshman with 4th place finishes in his sophomore & senior seasons, finishing 3rd as a junior.  He was also a BIG 10 runner-up his freshman season, as well as a Southern Scuffle runner-up as a sophomore.

Lincoln McIlravy

Philip's Lincoln McIlravy won five South Dakota High School State titles from 88'-92'. He went on to have an outstanding career for the University of Iowa. A three time NCAA champion, he was a runner-up his junior season. A three time BIG 10 champion, he was a runner-up his freshman season. He went 96-3 overall.

Hannon Hisek

Hannon Hisek won five South Dakota High Schoo state titles for Bon Homme from 94'-98'. He began his collegiate career at Iowa, but an injury kept him from competing. He then transferred to Waldorf, finishing up his career at Minnesota State Mankato where he took 6th place NCAA Division II All American honors in 2001.

Alex Kocer

Winning five South Dakota State titles for Wagner from 08'-12', Alex Kocer wrestled collegiately for South Dakota State. A three time NCAA qualifier with 97 career wins, Kocer took 8th place All American honors his senior season of 2017.

Gary Wallman

Gary Wallman started it all when he won his fourth South Dakota High School State title for Miller in 1964. He went on to wrestle for Iowa State where he was a two time NCAA Division I All American placing 4th in 1967 and 6th in 1968. He was also a two time Midlands champion.

David Rowe

David Rowe won four South Dakota High School State titles from 83'-86' for Mobridge. From what I could find, he did not compete in college.

Troy Wallman

Going 152-2 Troy Wallman won his four South Dakota State High School championships for Freeman from 85'-88'. I don't believe that he competed collegiately.

Cory Wallman

Winning his four South Dakota High School State titles from 92'-95', Cory Wallman competed collegiately for Wisconsin. His senior season of 2000 he was 4th at the NCAA championships.

Travis Slaba

Representing Wagner, Travis Slaba won four South Dakota High School State tiles form 92'-95'. He wrestled collegiately for Nebraska.

Chad Uhrig

Chad Uhrig won four South Dakota High School State championships for Sully Buttes from 96'-99'.  He went on to wrestle for the Blue Jays of Minnesota West where he was a two time NJCAA All American. Placing 4th in 2000 he was 3rd in 2001.

Dan Bonte

Dan Bonte won four South Dakota High School State crowns from 01'-05' for Garretson. He competed for South Dakota State in college.

Luke Loudenberg

Representing Howard, Luke Loudenberg won four South Dakota High School State titles from 12'-15'. Collegiately he decided to go the football route instead, competing for Dakota Wesleyan.
