When you look over the St. Mary roster at first you're left scratching you head wondering how a school in Kansas has a roster made up of so many kids from the West Coast. Then when you take into consideration that their head coach is Chuck Kearney who ran the Oregon Duck program successfully for years before it was viciously ripped out from underneath him by Patrick Kilkenny it all makes perfect sense. The Spires lost some good kids last year, such as KCAC champion Patrick Boulanger at 174 but they also have some good kids coming back.
Ethan Woods made the KCAC finals last year as a freshman & with KCAC champ Harley Williamson now graduated, Woods should be the forerunner for a title this season.
One of the few locals on the team, Hartwell Taylor won a KCAC title last season as a sophomore, going 2-2 at the NAIA championships. This season he should look for another KCAC title as well as NAIA All American titles.
An NAIA qualifier himself in 2020, Avery Jaramillo's brother Riley was 3rd in the KCAC last season as a senior. Now a senior himself, I'm anxious to see if he drops down to 184 or if he stays at 197.
Austin Carter made the KCAC finals last season as a freshman and should again contend to make the finals this year as a sophomore.
