2023 NAIA The Season: Cumberlands

Looks to be a great year for Patriot wrestling as all nine NAIA qualifiers return, with others that could very likely qualify as well. Look for Cumberlands to once again contend for the Mid South Conference North (MSCN) team title.

125 lbs
Austin Franco

Two time NAIA qualifier Austin Franco enters his final season as a Patriot looking to win his first conference title after finishing 3rd as a freshman & 2nd last year as a junior. He'll also be looking to claim his first All American honor, having finished one match shy last season.  One of his biggest challenges will be that of Carter Cox of Cumberland, who defeated Franco in both the MSCN finals as well as the NAIA R12 by identical 3-2 scores.

133 lbs
Gage Hudson

Rather surprising that Gage Hudson was left at home last season considering that he finished in 2nd place at the MSCN tournament only losing to Cumberland All American KeShawn Laws by a score of 4-2. Hudson himself was an All American in 2021, claiming 8th place honors. All in all, he was one of the best wrestlers in the NAIA to not make the national tournament last year. The Alabama native will most certainly look to reclaim his status at the NAIA level this season.

141 lbs
Bryce Nickel

Two time NAIA All American Bryce Nickel will be headed into his junior season looking to earn his third All American honor this season.  He was 7th in 2021 as a freshman & 6th last year as a sophomore. Also a three time MSCN finalist, he will be looking for his third title, having one titles in 2020 and 2022.

149 lbs
Chasen Brown

After placing 3rd the past two seasons at the MSCN tournament, Chasen Brown will look to make the conference finals in his final season as a Patriot as he also looks for his third NAIA qualification.

157 lbs
O'Brian Black

Alabama native O'Brian Black has thus far made it to the NAIA championships twice in his career. While his conference bracket is as sure to be loaded as it has been the past two seasons, he should again make it to the national tournament.

165 lbs
Weston Milnes

Two time NAIA qualifier Weston Milnes will look for a third qualification this season as a junior.

174 lbs
Jarod Swank

Winning a MSCN title in 2021, Swank was 2nd last season. He'll look to win a second conference title and earn his third NAIA qualification this season.

184 lbs
Harold Gilmore

Qualifying for his first NAIA championships last season with a runner-up finish at the MSCN tournament, Alabama native Harold Gilmore will look to once again make the finals at conference & qualify for his second NAIA championships.

197 lbs
Gabe Jacobs

For the past two seasons, Florida native Gabe Jacobs has been one match shy of NAIA All American honors.  This season he'll look for his first top 8 finish at nationals as he also contends for his first MSCN title.

HWT
Aaron Johnson

Senior Aaron Johnson has a rare opportunity this season to become a five time NAIA qualifier.  A two time All American who has finished 3rd the past two seasons, he has thus far finished 3rd-2nd-2nd-1st within the MSCN.  He'll look to win another conference title & be one of the top HWTs within the NAIA once again this season.
