Gone, Lost & Forgotten: Their Best = Livingstone

Located in Salisbury, North Carolina the Blue Bears of Livingstone College mark yet another Historically Black college that at one time had a wrestling program, that no longer does.

John Bryant
HWT

Bryant was a two time NAIA All American for the Blue Bears.  He captured back to back third place finishes at the 1979 & 1980 championships.

Rod Hampton
190 lbs

Also a member of the Blue Bear football team as a punter who averaged 42 yards per punt, Rod Hampton was the best wrestler to ever come out of Livingstone.  He won four Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) titles & four regional titles during his career.  He was also a four time NAIA All American placing fifth in 1976 & sixth in 1977 before taking back to back fourth place finishes in 1978 & 1979.

Post his collegiate football & wrestling career, Hampton had a career in Clinical Research.  He was a member of a team that developed the first H.I.V. A.I.D.S. diagnostic kit in 1984.
