Gone, Lost & Forgotten: Their Best = Schoolcraft Community College

From the little I've been able to find about the Ocelot wrestling program, the program was short lived but produced some quality talent.

Johnnie Jones
118, 126 lbs

As you study this photograph see if you recognize the wrestler being pinned.

Jones a graduate of Huron High began his collegiate career wrestling for the Ocelots.  He won NJCAA titles in 1974 & 1975.

Transferring to Iowa State, Jones had a standout year in the 1976-1977 season.  He won the Midlands title, the BIG 12 title & he took fourth place All American honors at the NCAA Division I championships.  In the quarter-finals he pinned Mean Gene "The Pinning Machine" Mills of Syracuse in two minutes and forty seconds.

Howard Strick
126 lbs

Strick earned back to back NJCAA All American status with a fourth place finish in 1973 & a runner-up finish in 1974.

Mike Mirick
150 lbs

Mirick won an NJCAA title in 1975.

  1. I am in the process of bringing wrestling back to Schoolcraft!!! We were on point for this fall but covid put the kibash to it! We will follow the MacKenzie model at HFC through the club phase. I am excited as we had some great workout rooms in the 70’s and 80’s!!
