Gone, Lost & Forgotten: Their Best = Elon

A rather small NCAA Division I institution in North Carolina, the Phoenix of Elon were NAIA for the majority of the time they had wrestling.  They had a program up before World War II that would not be reinstated until the 1967-1968 season.  It was once again dropped for the final time after the 1985-1986 season. 

Jay Lineberry
126, 118 lbs 

A graduate of Southern Alamance high school, there is no argument that four time NAIA Qualifier Jay Lineberry the best that the Phoenix ever produced.  He was twice All American with a sixth place finish in 1982 & a third place finish in 1983.   

He took over the Phoenix program but only got to coach for a few seasons as Elon decided to discontinue wrestling.  He then became the head coach at Central Davidson.
