Gone, Lost & Forgotten: Their Best = Whitworth

Today the Pirates of Whitworth are NCAA Division II. During the time they had wrestling they were NAIA.  I've been able to find little information on the program but know they finished in sixteenth place at the 1969 NAIA's.

  1. See more on Mike Carr as an inductee to the National Wrestling Hall Of Fame and previously to the Washington State WIAA Hall of Fame. As Head Wrestling coach at Medical Lake HS, Medical Lake, WA. His Cardinals Team of wrestlers were a perennial Individual and team trophy winning powerhouse during the 1980s culminating with the school’s first TEAM STATE CHAMPIONSHIP iIn the 1991-1992 season.
His Righthand man and key assistant coach was Larry Peterson. Later Larry’s son Sam Peterson, a Medical Lake HS alum and State champ in his own right would join their coaching ranks and help put them over the top for the school’s 1st and only state championship. Coach Carr also welcomed a young Air Force Sgt as a volunteer assistant for the great run from 1984-1991. His name is Randy Christman-McCarty. Coach Carr mistakenly introduced him as “Chris” on the first day of practice and the nickname stuck.
I know this because I am that asst. coach “Chris”.
