Gone, Lost & Forgotten: Their Best = Catholic

Located in Washington, D.C.,  Catholic University at one time had a wrestling program. 


Fred Favo

Favo was a star on both the mat & on the track during his time at Catholic.  As a wrestler he finished as the Mason-Dixon Conference runner-up in both 1954 & 1955.   He won three Mason-Dixon Conference titles in a row in the 440 yard run. 

Ralph "Whitey" Hubert


Also a member of the Cardinals Football team, Whitey Hubert won a Mason-Dixon Conference title in 1949.  He later coached at Catholic. 

James Gontis


Also a member of the Cardinals cross country team, Gontis made the Mason Dixon Conference finals three years running.   1957, 1958 & 1959. 

William Hall 


Hall was one tough hombre during his time at Catholic.  Captain of the football, wrestling & boxing teams.  In the season of 1949-1950, Hall averaged 100 yard per game on the gridiron & won Mason-Dixon titles on both the mat & in the ring.
