Wrestling dropped in 1992 (started in 1955) by Athletic Director Dick Rosenthal. Bucky O'Connor a multi-millionaire in the oil business, had a son Pat O'Connor who wrestled for Notre Dame. Pat was murdered in 1973. After Pat's Murder Bucky O'Connor set up a scholarship fun and donated 1.5 million dollars to Notre Dame Wrestling. After Bucky O'Connor died, The University of Notre Dame coaxed his wife into allowing the University to continue to get money from the endowment he set up, and drop the wrestling program, even though he strictly said that a stipulation for the money was that Notre Dame would keep wrestling.

FUN FACT: Georgia State participated in the fastest duel meet in Division I history. They defeated the Gardner-Webb Running Bulldogs 36-9 in a little over 12 minutes. The reason why the duel meet went so fast is because there were six mats laid out for the Georgia State wrestling tournament the next day and all six mats were used for the duel.

Billy Maldonado who would transfer to Iowa State and place 6th at the 2002 NCAA championships, first wrestled for the Georgia State Panthers. He qualified for the 1998 NCAA tournament where he went 2-2 for the Panthers.
