2023 NCAA DI The Season: Cal Poly

Good things continue to happen in San Luis Obispo. While the state of California has had some setbacks as to collegiate wrestling, a bright shining light of positivity is the Cal Poly program. The Mustangs are looking good, as I can see as many as eight NCAA qualifiers this year. Gone is Evan Wick, who won a PAC-12 title, as well as a CKLV title for the Mustangs, capturing a 3rd place finish at the NCAA's.  Before coming to Cal Poly he had NCAA finishes of 3rd & 4th, a CKLV finish of 2nd & he was a three time Midlands place-winner at 4th-2nd-3rd.

125 lbs
Antonio Lorenzo

Antonio Lorenzo showed some serious improvement last season going 20-11 on the year earning his first NCAA qualification. He also had impressive finishes at both CKLV & the Mat Men Open placing 5th & 3rd respectively.

133 lbs
Ethan Rotondo

Wisconsin transfer Ethan Rotondo looks to qualify for the NCAA championships in what will be his final season of eligibility. Among his victories thus far, Kyle Biscoglia of Northern Iowa & Corey Cabanban of Iowa State.

141 lbs
Lawrence Saenz

Lawrence Saenz was one of the best wrestlers in the NCAA last season to be left at home as he was not selected as a wildcard entry into the national tournament. Thus far 6th & 5th in the PAC 12 championships, the 2020 NCAA qualifier should see a second qualification this season.

149 lbs
Dom Demas

Wrestling is a funny sport in how quickly the fans can forget about you and move past you. In the talk of who's who among the 149 lbs'ers, we're not hearing much if anything about Dom Demas. Give it a few weeks into the season, we will.  The Oklahoma transfer has quite the pedigree. A 4th place All American in 2019, he's a three time BIG 12 finalist, with two titles. He's also been 4th & 3rd in the CKLV. 78 wins, it's feasible he reaches that 100th win as well.

157 lbs
Luka Wick

Anxious to see what the future holds for this talented, young Mustang. 12-0 as a Redshirt with a RENO title, Luka Wick heads into his freshman season.

165 lbs
Legend Lamer

A two time PAC-12 runner-up at 149 lbs, Legend Lamer moves up to weight classes for the 22'-23' season. 7th in the CKLV, it'll be interesting to see how he fares.

184 lbs
Adam Kemp

Another Mustang moving up a weight class is junior Adam Kemp. An NCAA qualifier last season, he was 2nd in the PAC-12 & 6th in the CKLV.

197 lbs
Bernie Truax

I am very interested to see how Bernie Truax does up at 197 lbs this season. Thus far 3rd-1st-2nd in the PAC-12 he is a serious threat to Arizona State's Kordell Norfleet's quest to become the first five time PAC-12 champion. Back to back 4th place finishes in the NCAA, it'll be interesting to see where he finishes this year.
