Gone, Lost & Forgotten: Their Best = DePauw

Located in Greencastle, Indiana the Tigers of DePauw had a wrestling program that started in the 1958-1959 season & lasted through the 1988-1989 season.

Joseph Allen IV

Allen had never wrestled before but during his senior year of 1958-1959, when DePauw announced they were going to start a wrestling program he thought it looked interesting.  He went out for the team & ended up only losing one match.   He lost in the conference semi-finals, coming back & earning third place, ending his season at 9-1.

He then became a scientist for NASA where he went on various Space Shuttle missions including those in 1982 & 1984.  A writer of two publications on Physics, Allen had a small role in the film Armageddon.

Robert Godwin

A conference champion, Godwin also played football & ran track for the Tigers.  Post college he took a career in Nuclear Physics & in his retirement became a part of the National Ski Patrol in the Colorado Rockies.

Paul Mitchell

Mitchell went 16-0 winning a Indiana College Conference title.  He was also a standout in Tennis, where he went 32-9 winning two Indiana College Conference titles.  He also played soccer.

Peter Work

Before coming to DePauw, Work was a second lieutenant in Vietnam.  Using the G.I. bill Work then wrestled for the Tigers while obtaining his degree.  Post graduation Work became an attorney, opening up his own law firm.  He wrote various books on law, the environment, Urban problems & Civil Rights.
