As we say goodbye to two talented Huskies, Northern Illinois returns four strong members to their lineup in 2026-2027.
Gone are...
Two-time NCAA DI qualifier Blake West. 3rd-2nd-1st-4th in the Mid-American Conference (MAC) things didn't quite end for the Husky as they should have. Nonetheless, 95 career wins & he did win a Midlands title (also 2nd in '24-'25).
Devon Dawson also called it a career. Awesome final season of wrestling, which included an MAC championship, 8th at Cliff Keen Las Vegas & 2nd at the Midlands.

133 Markel Baker
Could we be looking at the Huskie's next All-American? Markel Baker went 28-6 last year, winning a MAC title & finishing one match shy of being top 8 in the DI nation. He was 8th at the Midlands.

157 Landon Johnson
A 2025 NCAA DI qualifier, Landon Johnson fell into a slump last year that he could not get out of. Not sure if it was mental, physical or what but after placing 7th at the Midlands, things seemed to fall apart for him. Hopefully whatever the issue was it is now resolved & he's back to form.

165 Brett Smith
Brett Smith finished 3rd in an MAC bracket last season that took the top 2. 19 wins on the year, he was 7th at CKLV.
|
HWT Sean Carroll
I think one of the reasons Devon Dawson had such a rewarding final season of collegiate wrestling was because he had Sean Carroll in the room pushing him & making him better every day. Carroll actually beat Dawson last year 4-2 & I expect him to have a good '26-'27.
