JT1Wrestle Takes A Look At American 2026-2027

Crowing two EIWA champions last season, Head Coach Jason Borrelli continues to build the program in our nation's capital. Heading into 2026-2027, he says goodbye to some gifted talents.

It was truly a shame that Max Leete & Ray Lopez were at the same weight class.  Even more of a shame that both were seniors this past year.  Max Leete, a two-time NCAA DI qualifier, finished off his career as an EIWA champion & one match shy of being a DI All-American. 75 career wins.  Lopez, a testimony to just how tough it is to even crack a lineup at this level.  Won the Navy Classic & finished 7th at the Southern Scuffle. Stuck both Brett Ungar & Jacob Van Dee.

As to Jack Maida?  The truth about the 2023 NCAA DI qualifier is that had it not been for injuries, I'd be writing down a whole list of his other credentials & accomplishments.  As tough as this sport is & as much as it demands out of you, it'd be nice if those demons we refer to as injuries would just leave our athletes alone. Unfortunately, that isn't the case.

J.J. Peace

7th in the EIWA a year ago, J.J. Peace came up a bit short of NCAA DI qualification, but should among the 33 in 2027.  25 wins on the year, he was 7th in the Southern Scuffle.

Caleb Campos

I'm really hoping that when we see our first appearance of Coach Borrelli this season that he has his hair like this.  The Eagles first top 8 All-American since 2016, Caleb Campos placed 4th in the DI nation a year ago.  An EIWA champion, he was the Southern Scuffle runner-up & 3rd at the Navy Classic.  31 wins on the year.
