I had Coach Sioredas on JT1Wrestle earlier his summer & I told him that with all the negative surrounding NCAA DI wrestling in the state of California, it is extremely rewarding & refreshing to see how positive things are in San Luis Obispo. In Riverside we're having to deal with Dr. Micah Parker the lord of avarice, as he unceremoniously took the ax to the California Baptist program. Fresno State, Cal State Fullerton, UC Davis, the list goes on and on. The state of California, which has some of the best wrestling in the country (at least west of the Mississippi to those of you from Pennsylvania & Ohio who can't get off your high horse for a second) & yet it seems fewer and fewer places in-state for these kids to go post high school. To see the $$, resources & time that Cal Poly is putting forth towards their wrestling program is the ray of bright sunshine that is welcomed among the darkness.
Coach Sioredas does say goodbye to a couple of talents, but he also brings back a lot too. I look for this to be a very good year for Mustang wrestling. May I add, with a group of wrestlers, all from California.
Andrew Gonzales ends his career a PAC-12 champion, who also finished 4th at the Midlands.
Trevor Tinker, who came to San Luis Obispo through the Arch of St. Louis. Not a heavily recruited wrestler & he made the NCAA DI championships four times. A PAC-12 champ, this year he also took 5th at CKLV & 6th at Midlands. Had he been healthier, might have been an All-American too.
125 Koda Holeman
Coach Sioredas says that Cal Poly is a team of development & the testimony is in a guy like Koda Holeman. I think the senior/final season Koda Holeman would major if not tech the freshman Koda Holeman. That's how much the Clovis product has improved during his time as a Mustang. 19 wins on the year, he was a PAC-12 champion, 5th at Vegas & 3rd in Chicago. He'll be challenging for All-American honors in 2027.
141 Zeth Romney
One of the biggest question marks we have coming in to the 2026-2027 season. If he's healthy, then we're looking at a 2027 NCAA DI champion contender. Again, if he's healthy. In 2025, he was a Cliff Keen Las Vegas champion & 3rd in the DI nation.
165 Anthony Berg
Felt bad for Anthony Berg last year as he had a major upset at the PAC-12's, making the finals, but still got left home. 6th in the Midlands, he'll make the top 33 this season.
174 Cash Stewart
Look for Cash Stewart, 8th at CKLV & 6th at the Midlands to be an NCAA DI qualifier this season.
184 Ceasar Garza
Ceasar Garza won a PAC-12 title last year & finished 7th at Cliff Keen Las Vegas.
