Four (Or More) Time State Champions in College = West Virginia

West Virginia from what I found is a pretty good mixture of those who did and those who did not wrestle beyond winning their fourth state title. What surprises me most about West Virginia is the number of current four time state champions competing in college. I was pleasantly surprised by this.

Matt Ashley

In a land where Mountaineers are always free, Matt Ashley of Spencer became the first four time State champion when he won his fourth title in 1979. From what I have gathered he did not wrestle in college.

Unfortunately injuries would hamper the rest of his career, keeping him from reaching his potential. He did however make a admirable comeback to take runner-up honors as a senior at the EWL tournament.
