Gone, Lost & Forgotten: Their Best = Eastern Illinois

Eastern Illinois wrestling came to an end after the 2006-2007 .  The program started in the 1947-1948 season had success on many levels including the NAIA, NCAA Division II & NCAA Division I.   They won both the 1963 & 1968 Interstate Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (IIAC) titles.  At the NAIA Level they placed fifth in 1961, sixth in 1962 & eighth in 1965.  At the NCAA Division II level they had their best run throughout the late 70's into the early 80's placing fourth in 1977, third in both 1978 & 1980 & as the 1981 runner-up.

Toward the end of Panther wrestling, the team competed in the Western Regional, a conference whose history I've found extraordinarily difficult to find.  I do believe that they had some very high finishes within the Western Regional & may have won a team title or two as well.
