Four (Or More) Time State Champions in College = Colorado

In my opinion and estimation based on my observation over the past 30+ years, Colorado is one of those states that has always been there & has always produced yet seems to be just a nose hair left out of the discussion. When Pennsylvania & Ohio dominate the conversation with New Jersey, Iowa & other states demanding their fair share of praise & recognition, I guess it's only the natural order of things that Colorado would get left out.  Nevertheless the Centennial State's four time state champions have been and continue to be well represented at the collegiate level.

Bob Thompson

Montrose's Bob Thompson was Colorado's first four time state champion winning titles from 56'-59'.  From what I have gathered, he did not wrestle in college.

Dale Stryker

When a high school rivalry is going hot and strong, there's nothing like leaving one to go to the other. That's exactly what Dale Stryker did as among his four state titles he represented both Montrose & their bitter adversary Grand Junction.  In College he competed for Western State, winning an NCAA Division II title in 1965 as a sophomore & then taking runner-up honors in 1967 as senior. He was also a three time conference champion.

Kevin Barth

Winning four Colorado High School State titles for Holly from 77'-80', to my findings, Kevin Barth did not wrestle in college.

Brent Van Hee

Van Hee won titles in 83', 84', 85' & 86' for Fowler. He competed collegiately for Western State.

Dusty Fix

Dusty Fix (Daton's Uncle incase you were wondering) won four Colorado State titles (85'-88') for Wray. He wrestled at Oklahoma State.

Joel Gillmore

Joel Gillmore won four Colorado state titles for Arvada West from 91'-94'. I haven't verified it yet, but I believe he may have competed for Northern Colorado in college.

Jon Archuleta

Winning four Colorado High School State titles for Alamosa from 92'-95', Archuleta competed collegiately for Cal State Bakersfield.  Finishing 3rd as a sophomore & junior at the PAC-12 championships in 1998 & 1999, he capped off his career with a PAC-12 title in 2000.

Jared Haberman

Titles from 96'-99' for La Junta, Haberman had an outstanding career at Western Colorado. Taking NCAA DII All American honors of 5th place honors as a true freshman in 2000, Haberman would place 3rd in 2002 & 2nd in 2003 before ending his career as a national champion in 2004.

Chris Nissen

Nissen was a four time Colorado State champion for Standley Lake from 00'-03'.  He wrestled collegiately for Air Force. Starting off on a strong foot, Nissen captured runner-up honors at the 2004 West Regional, but succumbed to an injury that put him out his sophomore season of 2005. He did what he could to make a come back in 2006, this time placing 3rd at the West Regional but injuries got the best of him throughout the remainder of his career.

Kyle Sand

Winning titles from 01'-04' for Arvada West, Kyle Sand began his collegiate career at North Idaho. There he earned NJCAA All American honors as a freshman with a 4th place finish, winning an NJCAA title as a sophomore in 2007.  He then transferred to Adams State where he won a NCAA Division II title as a junior in 2009.

Chad Romero

A four time Colorado State champion for Fort Morgan from 01'-04', I don't believe Chad Romero wrestled in college.

Mikael Smith

There have been a lot of Mike Smith's that have wrestled in college, but thus far I haven't came across any from Nucla that won Colorado State titles from 02'-05'.

Torben Walters

Walters won Colorado State titles from 02'-05' for Crowley County. He competed collegiately for Adams State.

Kevin LaValley

Winning titles for Lyman from 04'-07', LaValley had an outstanding college career at Bucknell. Making the EIWA finals in 2010 as a junior, he won an EIWA title as a senior in 2011, earning an NCAA DI All American finish of 7th both years.  Going 127-40 during his time at Bucknell, LeValley was the last wrestler to hand Four time NCAA Champion Kyle Dake of Cornell a loss.

Tyler Graff

Tyler Graff won four Colorado High School State titles for Loveland from 05'-08'.  He competed collegiately for Wisconsin where he had a stand out career.  Going 97-20, here are his credentials:

NCAA - 5th-5th-3rd-2nd
BIG 10 - 4th-2nd-3rd-2nd
CKLV - 3rd-2nd-3rd-(Didn't Participate)
MIDLANDS - 1st-1st-3rd-4th

Jake Snider

A four time Colorado State champino for Ponderosa from 07'-10', Jake Snider competed collegiately for Colorado State Pueblo.

Phil Downing

A four time Colorado State champion for Broomfield from 11'-14', I know Phil Downing was originally going to compete for Notre Dame (OH).  I'm not sure if that came to fruition or not though.

Jesse Reed

Jesse Reed won four Colorado State titles for Paonia from 12'-15'.  He competed collegiately for Northern Colorado.

T.J. Shelton

Shelton won four Colorado State titles for Meeker from 13'-16'.  He competed Collegiately for Colorado School of Mines, starting off pretty strong with a 6th place finish at the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC) tournament as a freshman. Unfortunately though injuries got the best of him for the remainder of his career.

===

As of the right here & right now? Colorado's four timers are well represented at the collegiate level.

Jacob Greenwood of Poudre is at Wyoming

Brendon Garcia of Pueblo County is at Wyoming

Andrew Alirez of Greely Central is at Northern Colorado, he was R12 at the DI's last season.

Cohlton Schultz of Ponderosa is having an outstanding career thus far at Arizona State. 4th-2nd at NCAA DI's, with the opportunity to become a five time All American.

Dominick Serrano of Windsor is at Nebraska

Wesley Van Matre of John Mall is at Adams State

Isaiah Salazar of Windsor is at Minnesota. He was an NCAA Qualifier last season.
