JT1Wrestle Takes A Look At Alma 2026-2027

 

Alma had some super tough freshmen on last year's lineup & I have no doubt there are probably some rookies on this year's squad that I'll soon become familiarized with. At this point, going to take a look at some of the returnees with a lot of potential to have a standout season for the Scots.

Dom Gumtow

The sophomore had a very solid freshman campaign last season going 18-5 on the year.  6th at Regional V, he won the Ohio Northern Open & finished one match shy of placing at the prestigious Pete Willson Invitational.  What impressed me most was how well he wrestled against Sean Conway, an NCAA DIII finalist. That was a match that he could have won.  Anxious to see what he'll do for the Scots this season.

Luke Martin

A senior among the youth, Luke Martin collected 14 wins last year & placed 8th at Regional V.

Cayden Bell

Honestly, a little more size & bulk, this guy has both the lower body & upper body strength to get things done at HWT, and trim off a little weight, he has the speed & agility to get things done at 197. Either way, the ceiling is very high for Cayden Bell. Like other greats before him, such as Dr. Death Steve Williams, we lose him for part of the season due to his commitment to football.  He didn't even start wrestling until the middle of January last season, & he still managed to make the Regional V finals.
