2022: The Preseason: Duke Blue Devils

It's been a rough few years for Duke. Over the past three seasons the Blue Devils have went a combined 2-31 in dual meets. Without much support from the school & with zero scholarships, Glen Lanham's hands are rather tied. In all honesty, it is a wonder that he has been as successful as he has been.  Nevertheless as of late, the program needs some life breathed back into it.  The responsibility and the pressure looks to be solely put upon the Finesilver brothers, who look to be Duke's greatest hopes.  There's also a possibility that one other Blue Devil might make the NCAA tournament this year, but the chances aren't great.

Josh Finesilver
Junior
Record: 65-48
NCAA: 18'NQ, 19'NQ, 21'R12
ACC: 18'6th, 19'3rd, 21'3rd
SOUTHERN SCUFFLE: 19'R12

I would like to see Finesilver contend for an ACC title, but being 0-2 Vs Tariq Wilson of North Carolina State and 0-3 Vs Bryce Andonian of Virginia, it looks like another battle to earn a third 3rd place showing.  As to the NCAA's, Finesilver has the tools to be an All American.  Wins like an 8-5 decision over Josh Heil of Campbell, a 13-7 decision of Jimmy Hoffman of Lehigh and a fall over Nebraska's Ridge Lovett stick out.  Has an ability to medal at both CKLV and Southern Scuffle as well.

Matt Finesilver
Junior
NCAA: 18'NQ, 19'NQ
ACC: 18'4th, 19'2nd
SOUTHERN SCUFFLE: 18'7th, 19'5th
CKLV: 19'R12

Finesilver has been out of commission for a while, but if he can wrestle like he did a couple of seasons ago, I can see him being an All American for the Blue Devils this season. Like his brother Josh, I think the field of the ACC with Mekhi Lewis of Virginia Tech and Hayden Hidlay of North Carolina State, makes making a final difficult. He should finish 3rd.  Looks for his first CKLV medal and his third Southern Scuffle medal.

Kaden Russell
Junior
Record: 28-42

I'm not going to hold my breath here, but Russell is a pinner.  In all of the matches that he has won of significance, they have all been by fall.  His 0:44 fall over Isaac Trumble of North Carolina State was definitely a fluke.  Maybe the same could be said about pinning NCAA qualifiers Wil Schany of Virginia and Michale Fagg-Daves of Rider.  What it proves is that Russell can pin people.  Maybe he might pin them at the right time.

Duke sure could use excellent performances out of the Finesilver brothers this season.  I think in terms of revamping the program, drawing in recruits, ect they need it.
