2022: The Preseason: Franklin & Marshall Diplomats

1892.  That's the first year the sport of wrestling came to Franklin & Marshall.  For the past 130 years wrestling has came and went at various schools throughout the country, but one of the places that it has always remained has been Franklin and Marshall.  A small school that is otherwise NCAA Division III in about everything else, the Dipolmats have forever found themselves against the wind.  Despite these disadvantages, head Coach Mike Rogers has defied the odds, and all things considered, done quite well the past 11 seasons. This has included 8 NCAA qualifiers, 1 All American and the Diplomats only two time EIWA champion.  That may not sound like much to you but take this into consideration.  Before Coach Rogers arrived in the 2009-2010 season between the 1979-1980 & 2008-2009 seasons (a period of 29 years) the Diplomats had a total of 12 NCAA qualifiers.

Wil Gil
Senior
Record: 81-38
EIWA: 19'5th, 20'8th

If there's anyone on the F&M team that is going to qualify for the NCAA championships this season it is long time veteran Wil Gil.  A two time EIWA place-winner Gil owns a 7-5 victory over Columbia's Matt Kazimir.  Along with this notable victory he also owns a win over Drexel's Evan Barczak, Army's P.J. Ogunsanya, Lehigh's Ryan Pomrinca and American's Sal Profaci.  Franklin and Marshall isn't a team that's going to get any breaks. The Diplomats have never & they never will get the benefit of the doubt.  If Gil is going to make the NCAA tournament this season three things have to happen. F&M is going to have to enter him in the Midlands and he's going to have to wrestle well there. Perferably a medal, but no less than a R12 finish. He's going to have to get some big wins throughout the season and he's going to have to wrestle well at the EIWA's.
