2022: The Preseason: Oregon State Beavers

From 2012 through 2016, Oregon State owned the PAC 12 winning 5 conference titles in a row.  While I think Arizona State will outpoint Oregon State this season, I do think the Beavers will qualify more for the NCAA's. Under the leadership of Chris Pendleton it is only a matter of time before the Beavers are consistently contending for PAC-12 team titles.  Add in assistant coach Isaiah Martinez, and that time will be here before you know it.  He already has a competitive team where I see as many as 9 NCAA qualifiers, with 7 that should make the PAC-12 finals.

125
Brandon Kaylor
Sophomore
Record: 44-18
NCAA: 21'NQ
PAC 12: 21'3rd

Being 1-3 Vs Jackson DiSario of Stanford and 0-2 Vs Brandon Courtney of Arizona State, look for Kaylor to finish 3rd once again in the PAC-12 conference.  Winner by fall Vs two time SOCON champion Korbin Meink suggest some notable wins will happen this season.

133
Devan Turner
Senior
Record: 66-44
NCAA: 19'NQ, 20'NQ, 21'NQ
PAC 12: 19'3rd, 20'1st, 21'1st
RENO: 20'4th
SOUTHERN SCUFFLE: 20'6th

Arizona State's Michael McGee will challenge Turner for the PAC-12 title this season, but being 4-0 against Cal State Bakersfield's Chance Rich, I can't see Turner finishing anything worse than 2nd.  Inconsistency, and losing matches that should have been won makes me leery of predicting too much out of him at the NCAA's. Talent wise he has the ability, but performing well four days in a row can be a chore.

141
Grant Willits
Junior
Record: 63-27
NCAA: 19'NQ, 20'NQ, 21'NQ
PAC 12: 19'1st, 20'2nd, 21'1st
RENO: 20'4th
SOUTHERN SCUFFLE: 20'R12

Willits does own a victory by fall over Real Woods of Stanford, but the feud has been rather one sided and Woods has won every other match rather decisively.  Therefore, as of right now, I'm predicting Willits to be a PAC-12 runner-up.   As to NCAA competition, most impressive sticks out a 7-1 decision over Campbell's Josh Heil.  Willits strikes me a top 16 wrestler, maybe top 12. Need to see more out of him before predicting anything further.

149
Cory Crooks
Senior
record: 41-52
NCAA: 21'NQ
PAC 12: 21'3rd

Going to be a tougher bracket this year than it was last for Crooks.  With Arizona State's Kyle Parco, Stanford's Jaden Abas and Cal Poly's Legend Lamer, I have Crooks finishing 4th in the PAC-12.  Notable wins outside the conference include defeating All American Jarrett Degen 8-6, with two victories over Army's P.J. Ogunsanya 3-2 and 3-0.

157
Hunter Willits
Junior
Record: 65-35
NCAA: 18'NQ, 19'NQ, 21'NQ
PAC: 18'2nd, 19'2nd, 21'2nd
RENO: 20'2nd
MIDLANDS: 18'R12
CKLV: 19'8th
SOUTHERN SCUFFLE: 20'6th

I think the best hope for a Beaver All American lies in Hunter Willits.  As of right now I see him capturing his fourth PAC-12 runner-up finish, although if he were to defeat Jacori Teemer of Arizona State it wouldn't surprise me much. Willits is the type of wrestler that thrives on getting to wrestle someone multiple times. The more he wrestles someone, the more likely he is to be able to beat them. He owns a 3-1 victory over Griffin Parriot of Purdue, a 6-4 victory over Justin Thomas of Oklahoma, a 5-2 victory over Mike Van Brill of Rutgers and a 13-2 major decision over Markus Hartman. Not to mention, he also defeated All American Paul Fox of Stanford twice.

174
Trey Munoz
Record: 19-6
Freshman
NCAA: 21'NQ
PAC 12: 21'2nd

Along with Crooks, Munoz makes another Arizona State transfer who will compete for the Beavers this fall and winter.  He will battle Stanford's Tyler Eischens for the PAC-12 title this season.

184
Tanner Harvery
Senior
Record: 57-23
NCAA: 19'NQ, 20'NQ
EIWA: 19'4th, 20'3rd
MIDLANDS: 20'R12

Another transfer for the Beavers that should score big points at the PAC-12 tournament is Tanner Harvery.  He'll battle Cal Poly's Berne Truax for the conference title.  As to the NCAA's?  He has some very notable victories.  An 8-5 decision over Michigan State's Cam Caffey, a 5-3 victory over Wyoming's Tate Samuelson, and most impressive a 15-4 major over Cornell's Jonathan Loew.  Top 12 caliber, maybe an All American.

197
J.J. Dixon
Sophomore
Record: 36-26
NCAA: 21'NQ
PAC 12: 21'2nd

I think we're looking at another PAC-12 runner-up finish for Dixon this season.  While I think he makes the finals easily enough, he's not beating Kordell Norfleet of Arizona State. He's 0-4 against the Sun Devil and the last two meetings have been rather ugly.

HWT
Gary Traub
Senior
Record: 65-35
NCAA: 20'NQ
BIG 10: 20'6th

Another transfer for the Beavers will be "Gas Tank" Gary Traub who trades in the gray and scarlet for the black and orange.  I can't see him beating Cohlton Schultz of Arizona State, but I do see him as Schultz's opponent in the PAC-12 finals.
