133 Mike Colaiocco Or Carmen Ferrante Sophomore OR Junior NCAA: 20'NQ OR 19'NQ EIWA: 20'WC OR 19'4th, 20'6th MIDLANDS: 20'3rd OR 19'R12, 20'R12 |
This is a wrestle-off worth watching. Colaiocco had success at 125 lbs two seasons ago & one would think that might translate into success at 133. Among notable wins include a 13-5 major decision over 7th place All American Killian Cardinale of West Virginia as well as a 5-4 decision over 4th place All American Drew Hildebrandt of Central Michigan & two time BIG 10 runner-up Devon Schroder of Purdue.
Ferrante has success of his own which includes a 5-4 decision over Lucas Byrd of Illinois. He also owns two shut out victories, 6-0 & 4-0 over Darren Miller of Bucknell that suggest a high finish in the EIWA is likely.
Not sure if either one of these guys has the ability to cut to 125 anymore or if they're big enough to move up and compete at 141. What I do know is that Pennsylvania has two very talented grapplers at 125.
149 Anthony Artalona Junior 43-13 NCAA: 19'R12 EIWA: 19'1st MIDLANDS: 20'6th |
A 19-4 technical fall over 8th place All American Jonathan Millner of Appalachian State more than suggest Artalona's capabilities in making the NCAA award stand in March. Other notable victories include a 3-1 sudden victory over Navy's Jared Prince as well as a 3-2 decision over Oklahoma's Justin Thomas. Within the EIWA, he'd have to upset Yianni Diakomihalis of Cornell to claim a second conference title & in route the last thing he'd want to do is over look Parker Kropman of Drexel who has thus far given him two scares.
157 Doug Zapf Junior Record: 47-23 NCAA: 20'NQ EIWA: 20'4th MIDLANDS: 20'R12 |
Jumping up two weight classes from 141, it is difficult to say how Zapf will do or where he'll finish in the EIWA. I would think with his ability and talent, it includes placing in the top 8 at the conference tournament and making a second trip to the NCAA's.
165 Lucas Revano Sophomore Record: 18-15 NCAA: 20'NQ EIWA: 20'8th |
Copy and paste what I just said about Zapf. Revano is moving up two weight classes from 149 to 165, and again I would think through his ability and talent, he still places top 8 and earns a second trip to the NCAA's.

The big jumps in weight classes are a bit concerning, & as mentioned it's really a shame that two of the Quakers best wrestlers are at the same weight class. Artalona should be the star of the program this season.

On one hand, with all the covid holdovers, national qualifying may be tougher this year than in years past. On the other hand, I think this is stingy on the number of national qualifiers and think the Quakes could also qualify 5 or 6. I do not know where all the weights and wrestle offs will shake out and who is greyshirting but other contenders: Ryan Miller at 125 (some nice freestyle results); CJ Composto at 141; and Cole Urbas at 197 (though this is a very deep weight).
