Gone, Lost & Forgotten: Their Best = Cheyney

At one time Cheyney had a rather respectable NCAA Division II wrestling team that produced some great talent & a tenth place finish at the 1991 championships.

Marty Rutledge
HWT
Rutledge was an All American for the Wolves in 1989 placing eighth at the NCAA Division II championships.

Samuel Mantegna
142, 150 lbs
Mantegna was a two time All American for the royal blue and white, placing fifth & seventh at the 1990 & 1991 NCAA Division II championships respectively.

Herman Moultrie
150 lbs
Moultrie earned All American honors for the Wolves placing fourth at the NCAA Division II championships in 1991.
Harold Rogers
HWT
The late Harold Rogers who we sadly lost in 2006, was one of the best for the Wolves.  His junior & senior seasons, his only regular season losses were to two time NCAA Division I champion/future 1996 Olympic gold medalist Kurt Angle.  Rogers placed twice at the NCAA Division II championships, taking runner-up honors in 1991 & fifth place in 1992.

Kendall Southerland
158 lbs
He may not have been very big, but Kendall Southerland was a monster on both the gridiron and on the mat.  As a football player, Southerland played linebacker for the Wolves. In wrestling he made the NCAA Division II finals in 1992.

  1. Looking for a photo of the logo that was used by Cheyney for their wrestling program ... can't believe there is literally nothing on the internet : ( Does anyone happen to have a photo?
