Gone, Lost & Forgotten: Their Best = Middle Tennessee State

The Blue Raiders had wrestling at two different periods during Middle Tennessee State's time in athletics.  As to when the first one started, I'm not aware but it ended sometime in the 1950's.   MTSU reinstated wrestling during the 1973-1974 season but it would be short lived as the program was again dropped after the 1979-1980 season.

Pat Simpson
126 lbs
One of the Blue Raiders best wrestlers was 1979 NCAA qualifier Pat Simpson.  He went on to become one of the most successful high school coaches in the state of Tennessee where he lead Father Ryan High to 20 state titles.  He also teaches social studies at the school.
Tony Rowland
150 lbs
Another successful wrestler for the Blue Raiders was 1980 NCAA qualifier Tony Rowland. One of Rowland's sons, also named Tony, played football & participated in Track & Field for MTSU.
