SIUE to host Chattanooga & Illinois on Saturday (12-11-21)

It was an exciting weekend last week in Edwardsville, Illinois with the Cougar Clash and this weekend will be no different as SIUE host the Mocs of Chattanooga and the Fighting Illini of Illinois.   There will be some exciting matches to look forward to and here they are.

165 lbs
Drew Nicholson (Chattanooga), Cardeionte Wilson (SIUE), Danny Braunagel (Illinois)

All three duals will feature good matches at 165 lbs. This weekend presents a grand opportunity for the Cougar's Cardeionte Wilson to try and pull of some upsets in front of his home crowd as he takes on #31 Drew Nicholson and #23 Danny Braunagel. Braunagel and Nicholson have met in the past with Braunagel winning a tight 5-3 decision. It'll be another good match.

125 lbs
Fabian Gutierrez (Chattanooga) Vs Justin Cardani (Illinois)

Here is an example of ranking Vs result.  Currently Chattanooga's Fabian Gutierrez holds a #20 ranking to Illinois' Justin Cardani's #26 ranking. However it was the Illini who scored a 5-2 decision over the Moc the last the two met. A win over Cardani not only helps Gutierrez to hold his ranking in place, it also helps him in quest to a better seed at the upcoming Southern Scuffle & in building his confidence towards a SOCON title.

197 lbs
Matt Waddell (Chattanooga) Vs Zach Braunagel (Illinois)

One of the wrestlers currently underrated at the moment is Chattanooga's Matt Waddell.  What makes him underrated? The fact that he's beaten guys ranked, while he himself isn't ranked. One of those guys he has a win over is #16 Zach Braunagel of Illinois.  If the Moc can manage to defeat the Illini once again like he did earlier in an 8-6 decision, he'll find himself in the rankings the next time they come out.

HWT
Luke Luffman (Illinois) Vs Colton McKiernan (SIUE)

Smelling a possible upset at HWT? I'll give it a chance. McKiernan is such an up and down wrestler, but when comparing the two side by side, he matches up well with Luffman. Luffman currently holds a #19 ranking & such a win would be monumental for McKiernan's career.
