2025 Pete Willson Invitational - 184 lbs - (Fri Jan 31-Sat Feb 1)

Three NCAA DIII qualifiers, an All American & three returning place-winners, including last year's Pete Willson Invitational champion.  First couple of rounds might not have too much excitement but by the time we reach the quarters and semis, we're going to have some outstanding wrestling.

#6
Cael McLaren
Cornell (IA)

A match shy of D3 All American honors last season, Cael McLaren was the Pete Willson Invitational champion.  He looks to be on a mission to earn that All American honor in March & on a mission to collect some more gold here at Pete Willson this weekend.  Marcus Orlandoni has given him a couple of scares, but the Ram has one them all 4-3, 4-1 & 4-1 s.v.   He owns a very impressive 14-5 major over Niall Schoenfelder & a 14-4 major over Braden Young.

#7
Marcus Orlandoni
UW-La Crosse

An NCAA D3 qualifier last season, Marcus Orlandoni has come close but has yet to upend Cael McLaren.  What the Eagle has managed to do however, is stay one step ahead of Nial Schoenfelder, defeating the All American by scores of 4-1 & 4-1 s.v.  Orlandoni was 3rd at last year's Pete Willson Invitational.

#8
Niall Schoenfelder
UW-Eau Claire

3rd in the D3 nation last season, Niall Schoenfelder has slipped a bit in the rankings, and ironically enough, in partial it is due to losses against both McLaren & Orlandoni.  Now, Schoenfelder has proven that he can beat McLaren, as he owns a 5-3 decision over the Ram.  Pete Willson gives the Blugold an opportunity to avenge some losses & get back to the higher ranking he previously held.  Owns an 11-3 major decision over Braden Young.

#13
Peyton Geiger
North Central

As Nial Schoenfelder concerns himself with avenging losses against McLaren & Orlandoni, he better be watching his own back against the likes of Peyton Geiger.  Geiger took Schoenfelder into sudden victory, before ultimately dropping a heartbreaking 3-1 decision.  Even more noteworthy, the Cardinal owns a 10-4 decision over McLaren.  Also owns a 16-1 tech over Braden Young.

U.R.
Ryder Slayton
Messiah

Geiger isn't the only wrestler that Schoenfelder will have to be weary of trying to knock him off this weekend.  Ryder Slayton has also taken the Blugold into sudden victory, also losing by a score of 3-1.  Slayton is already a two-time Pete Willson place-winner with finishes of 7th & 6th.  What a statement he'd be making if in becoming a three-time place-winner this weekend, he was to pull off some notable upsets in doing so?

U.R.
Braiden Young
Augustana (ILL)

The Vikings plan on bringing home some hardware this weekend and a match from placing last year, Braiden Young will be one of them on the hunt for a medal.
