Only one ranked wrestler here at 149 lbs, but don't kid yourself, there will still be a lot of great wrestling in this bracket at the Pete Willson Invitational.
#2 Zach Sato UW-Eau Claire |
5th in the D3 nation last season, Zach Sato has taken back to back runner-up finishes at the Pete Willson Invitational the past two seasons. Two silvers, this looks like the weekend to add gold. Owns both a 15-3 major & a 3:18 fall over Landon Card. Owns a 4:49 fall over Dalton Monger. Owns a 21-2 tech and a 12-3 major over Jalin Conner.
U.R. Landon Card Cornell (IA) |
Another one of those wrestlers that proves why only ranking to 15, isn't enough. D3 rankings should go to at least 21, if not 25. Nevertheless the Ram had an outstanding showing at last year's Pete Willson Invitational and I'd call him the number one prospect to meet Sato in this year's finals. Owns a 17-1 tech over Chase Mirelez and a 2:35 fall over Joey Olalde.
U.R. Dalton Monger Messiah |
Challenging Card for a spot in the finals will be Messiah sophomore Dalton Monger who took a 6th place finish at Pete Willson last year as a freshman.
U.R. U.R. U.R. Chase Mirelez Joey Olalde Jalin Conner Millkin Ferrum UW-Whitewater |
Ironically enough, Chase Mirelez, Joey Olalde and Jalin Conner were all one match shy of a medal here at last year's Pete Willson Invitational. Even more ironic, the three have yet to meet in collegiate competition. Likely to face one another this tournament, as all three will look for a spot on the award stand.
