Here at 141 lbs we have 6 ranked wrestlers, including three All Americans. Three Pete Willson Invitational place-winners, including last year's champion also return. Here at JT#1 the goal is to try and figure out who will be our final eight by tournament's end. I believe this will be one of the tougher brackets, as I've identified 12 wrestlers, all of who I think will fight for a spot on the award stand.
#1 Jacob Reed Ohio Northern |
3rd-3rd-2nd in the D3 nation, all that is left for Jacob Reed is to end his collegiate career as a four time All American and NCAA Division III champion. That's still a ways away yet, and this weekend the goal is to become a two-time Pete Willson Invitational champion. 119 victories already in his illustrious career, he's bound to add some more W's to that impressive number. Owns a 2:17 fall over Max Sanderfoot.
#7 Mark Samuel Roanoke |
Mark Samuel really came alive at the NCAA DIII championships last season, taking a 3rd place finish. If anyone stands a shot at keeping Reed from winning his second Pete Willson Invitational title this weekend, Samuel is the man who stands that shot. He owns a 17-1 technical fall over Bo Niewiadomski.
#9 Evan Onstad UW-Whitewater |
The sophomore currently carries a 14-3 record on the season & will be looking for a good finish here in Wheaton, Illinois. He hasn't faced any of the competition he'll see here yet, and it'll be exciting to see how he squares up against them.
#11 Ty Bisek Concordia (MN) |
A 2023 NCAA DIII All American, Ty Bisek is no stranger to the Pete Willson Invitational. He was a champion in 2023 & he was a runner-up this past season. With that noted, he was also competing at 133 lbs. Now he's up 8 lbs of muscle & the road looks a bit bumpier, with more twists and turns. Against the competition, Bisek owns two technical falls over Sean Conway 18-3 & 16-0. He also owns a 2:41 fall over Asa Brunk.
#13 Bradley Rosen North Central |
4th in the D3 nation in 2022, it was a R12 finish for Bradley Rosen in 2023, and he came up short of qualifying last year. This marks his final shot at earning All American honors again, and in that effort, a strong Pete Willson Invitational finish would be motivating for the Cardinal. He owns both a 13-5 major as well as an 18-2 technical fall over Max Sanderfoot. He owns 2-0, 17-2 & 11-3 victories over Sam Lorenz. He also owns a 20-5 tech over Sean Conway.
#15 Sam Lorenz UW-La Crosse |
An NCAA DIII qualifier last season, Sam Lorenz is looking to earn a medal here in Wheaton this weekend. A pinner, Lorenz stuck Max Sanderfoot at the 4:07 mark, and Bo Niewiadomski in just 49 seconds. He also owns a 7-4 victory over Sean Conway.
U.R. Sean Conway Chicago |
The Maroon took a 5th place finish at last year's Pete Willson Invitational & will look to earn himself another medal this weekend. Against the competition he owns both a 17-4 & 11-2 major over Max Sanderfoot. He also owns a 6-5 decision over Asa Brunk.
U.R. Asa Brunk Messiah |
Like Ty Bisek, Asa Brunk competed at 133 lbs last season. Now he's at 141. He owns 23 wins so far this year & he was one match shy of a top 8 finish at last year's Pete Willson Invitational.
U.R. Max Sanderfoot MSOE |
Another wrestler who was one match shy of a top 8 finish at last year's Pete Willson Invitational. Max Sanderfoot owns both a 17-1 tech over Asa Brunk and a 17-6 major over Sean Conway.
U.R. Bo Niewiadomski UW-Eau Claire |
Another wrestler one match shy of a medal at last year's Pete Willson Invitational, Bo Niewiadomski will look to earn a top 8 finish this weekend.
