Gone, Lost & Forgotten: Their Best = San Jose City

 At one time the Jaguars of San Jose City were quite competitive on the wrestling mat.  Throughout the early 1960's up through the discontinuation of the program after the 1983-1984 season, they Jaguars continuously did well on an individual level at the CCCAA tournament. 

Carranza
147 lbs 

Carranza  was a CCCAA runner-up in 1963 

Vaughn 
115 lbs 
Vaughn was a CCCAA runner-up in 1964 

Rich Calderon
177, 190 lbs 

A graduate of Overfelt High school, Calderon was third at the 1972 CCCAA championships, winning a CCCAA title in 1973.   He then went on to wrestle at the University of Washington where he was fourth at the NCAA Division I tournament in 1974. 

Later in life Calderon was a member of the San Diego Police Department from 1978 through 2008. 

Mal Alexander
190 lbs 

Alexander won a CCCAA title for the Jaguars in 1972 

Bob Loyst
177 lbs 

Loyst was a CCCAA Runner-up in 1973

Jeff Ramona
177 lbs 

Romona was third in 1974, winning a CCCAA title in 1975. 


David Colt
118 lbs 

Colt won a CCCAA title for the Jaguards in 1976

Tom Pender
158 lbs 


A graduate of Lincoln High school, Pender was a CCCAA Runner-up in 1977.   He then went on to wrestle at Humboldt State where he took fourth at the NCAA Division III tournament in 1978. 

Jerry Niewoehner
134 lbs 

Niewoehner was third at the 1980 CCCAA tournament

Steve Bailey
177 lbs 

Bailey was a CCCAA champion in 1981.
