2025-2026 NJCAA Preview - Great Lakes District

Southwestern Michigan

Great Lakes District champions, Southwestern Michigan qualified all 10 Roadrunners to the 2025 NJCAA championships.   They return 7 of those 10 for the '25-'26 season.   Haven't heard anything about new homes for Colby Klinger 4th in the NJCAA nation or Nathan Adrian, who was 7th in the NJCAA nation.

125 - Santana Ramon took runner-up honors at the Great Lakes District

133 - Also collecting a Great Lakes District silver medal in '25 was Kaden LaPaugh

157 - Dayveon Rupert won a Great Lakes District title

165 - Jeirmi Scales took 3rd at the Great Lakes District

174 - Riley Hess also took 3rd at the Great Lakes District

197 - Bronze for Austin George at the Great Lakes District

HWT - Greg Crawford was also bronze at the Great Lakes District.

Triton

Great Lakes District runner-up Triton sent 8 of their Trojans to the NJCAA championships last year, and four return to action in '25-'26.  Very anxious to see where those that no longer have NJCAA eligibility end up.  Ashton Hayhurst was 4th in the NJCAA nation last season, as Mustafa Salimi was 6th. I sometimes take for granted that not everyone goes into the NJCAA with the aspirations to have anything beyond an NJCAA wrestling career. Hope that isn't the case with Hayhurst or Salimi, & I really hope that isn't the case with two-time NJCAA All-American Ghee Rachal who took back-to-back finishes of 5th.  I have yet to hear anything.

133 - Great season for Hayden DeMarco.  Runner-up at the MSOE open, he won titles at Millikin, Harper & the Great Lakes District.  Finished one match shy of NJCAA All-American honors

157 - Jase Salin was 3rd at the Great Lakes District

184 - Jovany Zuniga was 5th at the Great Lakes District

HWT - I think Ryan Boersma could possibly challenge for the NJCAA title this season. 3rd at the Yellow Jacket Open, the Trojan won titles at Harper, Henry Ford & the Great Lakes District.  Finished 5th in the NJCAA nation.

Harper

Great Lakes District host Harper finished 3rd & sent 8 of their Hawks to the NJCAA championships. 5 return & of the 3 who are now out of NJCAA eligibility, haven't heard anything about new homes.  Ali Adel was 6th in the NJCAA nation a year ago.

133 - An accomplished season for Esteban Delgado.  Along with earning NCJAA qualification, teh Hawke took 3rd at the Harper Open, winning titles at the Muskie Scramble, the Whizzer Open & the Battle For the Helmet.

141 - Delin Jones took runner-up honors at the Battle For the Helmet, taking 3rd at both the Whizzer Open & the Great Lakes District

149 - Lennon Steinkeuhler won the Muskie Scramble & finished 3rd at the Great Lakes District

157 - Pedro Jiminez was the Great Lakes District runner-up

165 - Jacob Crandall took runner-up honors at the Great Lakes District

Muskegon

Recruiting is the name of the game in NJCAA wrestling, but another large factor of success is attrition. People can argue their opinions of opposition, but few have the expertise & knowledge of observation.  Many wrestlers DO improve tremendously between freshman & sophomore season.  This puts Muskegon at an advantage in my opinion.  The Jayhawks return 9 of their 10 NJCAA qualifiers from last season.  Even if new recruits come in & beat some of them out for the varsity position, that still leaves TWO high caliber wrestlers in the room.  Iron sharpens iron, right?

125 - Leading the way for the Jayhawks we have Jack Guerrero.  A Great Lakes District champion, he finished 8th in the NJCAA nation.  Add in titles won at the Alma Open, the Thunder Open, & the Michigan Community College Athletic Association (MCCAA), he was 2nd at the Ben McMullan.

133 - Anthony Cruz was 3rd at the Ben McMullan, taking runner-up finishes at both the Alma Open & the MCCAA.  He was 4t at the Great Lakes District.

141 - 5th at the Great Lakes District, Kyron Zoet was 2nd at both the Ben McMullan & the Alma Open.

149 - Jacob Gillson was  4th at the Great Lakes District & a MCCAA runner-up.

157 - Darnell Mack also 4th at the Great Lakes District, won the Thunder Open & took 2nd at the MCCAA.

165 - An NJCAA qualifier, Gary Johnson III won titles at both the Thunder Open & the MCCAA, taking 3rd at the Ben McMullan.

174 - An MCCAA champion, Trevor Streeter was 2nd at both the Thunder Open & the Great Lakes District.

197 - 2nd at the Thunder Open & 3rd at the Alma Open, Andrew Baldwin was 5th at the Great Lakes Open.

HWT - Eli Marshall was 3rd at the MCCAA & 5th at the Great Lakes District.

Henry Ford

The Hawks sent 8 to the NJCAA championships last season & 2 of those 8 return for '25-'26 action.

141 - Daniel G Cancel was an NJCAA qualifier for the Hawks last season

174 - Henry Feller was also an NJCAA qualifier for the Hawks in '25.

Bryant & Stratton

The Bobcats sent one wrestler to the NJCAA championships & they return him.

165 - Zach Clark was 4th at the Great Lakes District.

Joliet

You know good and well that the Wolves are going to be competitive this year & send wrestlers to the NJCAA championships.  That's all but a guarantee. However, all three of their qualifiers from last season, are now done in the NJCAA.  Hoping to hear soon where 6th place NJCAA All-American Paul Kadlec is heading.

Morton

Morton has me worried.  The Panthers sent two to the NJCAA championships last season & both are now out of NJCAA eligibility.  What has me concerned is the fact that wrestling for both Men & Women is no longer listed when you look up Panther sports.  Hoping this is some kind glitch or error, but fearful it's another example of an Athletic Director refusing to be honest and transparent.  We'll see....

Mott

The Bears sent one to the NJCAA championships last season & he is now out of NJCAA eligiblity.

Ancilla

No NJCAA qualifiers for Ancilla last season, but hopefully '25-'26 is a different story for the Chargers
