2025-2026 NCAA Division III Preview - 197 lbs

Joey Petrella
Baldwin Wallace

What a season for Joey Petrella in '24-'25.  27-3 on the year, titles won at both John Summa & Regional 4 as he finished 4th in the D3 nation.  He was also an NWCA Scholar All-American.

Dylan Harr
Johnson & Wales

Five years removed from the nightmare that was COVID-19, you'd think I'd finally have it together on who has eligibility left & who does not.  I don't.  I think Dylan Harr may be done with his collegiate wrestling career, but he might also have a season left.  To error on the side of caution, what I can tell you is that he's a three-time NCAA D3 All-American.  Finishes of 4th-5th-5th & he's 2nd-2nd-1st at Regionals.  That's a hell of a good resume, and he may be adding more to it this year.

*UPDATE* - Harr's collegiate career is over.

Ian Pepple
UW-Eau Claire

37 wins on the season and 25 of those 37 wins came via fall.  3rd at Regional 7 & 6th in the D3 nation, Ian Pepple was also 5th at Pete Willson.

Pilo Perez
Dubuque

Much like Dylan Harr, I'm not 100% positive if Pilo Perez will be back in action this season or not.  He was listed as a 5th year senior last year, but he also sat out all of '23-'24.  So what does that mean?  What I can tell you is that he finished 2nd at Regional 6 last year & he finished one match shy of earning D3 All American honors.

D.J. Henry
TCNJ

25 wins on the season, the future UFC competitor won a title at Regional 3 & finished one match shy of D3 All American honors.

Matt Kelly
Rhode Island College

22-5 on the year, Matt Kelly won a Rhode Island College Open & took 2nd at Regional 1.  Although he did not place at Pete Willson this season, he was 4th there two years ago.

Carson LiCastri
SUNY-Oneonta

Carson LiCastri heads into his final season of competition having posted a 34-7 record last year, finishing 3rd at Regional 2.  A two-time SUNY-AC runner-up, he was also 2nd at the Rhode Island College Open.

Gunnar Garriques
Chicago

5th-5th-3rd at Regionals thus far, Gunnar Garriques heads into '25-'26 looking to become a four-time Regional place-winner & a two-time NCAA D3 qualifier.  A three-time NWCA Scholar All-American, Garriques is a two-time University Athletic Association (UAA) champion & he was 6th at Pete Willson last year.

Grant Mathias
USMMA

11-4 on the year, Grant Mathias finished one match shy of NCAA D3 qualification with a 4th place finish at Regional 3.

John Santowski
Washington & Lee

26-6 on the year, John Santowski finished one match shy of D3 qualification, as he was 4th at Regional 4.

Casey Aikman
North Central

27 wins on the season, Casey Aikman finished a very impressive 3rd at Pete Willson & he won the Collegiate Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW).  A 18-10 major over All-American Ian Pepple, he also defeated D3 R12'er D.J. Henry 8-3.  Aikman finished one match shy of D3 qualification himself, 4th at Regional 5.

Braydon Vandenberg
St John Fisher

Braydon Vandenberg heads into '25-'26 having posted 6th & 5th place finishes thus far at Regionals. He won 19 matches this past season.

Mohammed Fofana
Marymount

Mohammed Fofana was 5th last year at Regional 3.

Hunter Moore
Roanoke

27 wins on the year, Hunter Moore was 5th at Regional 4.

Nick Woodruff
Penn Tech

19 wins on the season for Nick Woodruff who was 6th at Regional 2.

Phil Nave
Gettysburg

17 wins on the year for the Bullett, who was 6th at Regional 3.

Logan Neitzel
UW-Stevens Point

Logan Neitzel was 6th at Regional 7 a year ago, posting 27 victories.

Simon Lingle
SUNY-Brockport

17 wins on the year, Simon Lingle was 7th at Regional 2.

Kain Killmer
UW-Platteville

An Iowa native, Kain Killmer was 7th at Regional 7.

Oliver Parker
Springfield

Oliver Parker was 8th in Regional 1.

Nolan Fenton

22-5 on the year, Nolan Fenton was 8th at Regional 2.

Isaiah Manning
Greensboro

16 wins on the season, Isaiah Manning was 8th at Regional 4.

Alex Watson
Loras

Alex Watson was 8th at Regional 6.

      Josh Negron              Andrew Filip
Castleton

A lot of great wrestle-offs in D3 wrestling & here at 197 will be a good one at Castleton.  Josh Negron was 27-6 on the year last year, he won the Ithaca Invitational.  Filip was 3rd.

Ethan Winkelman
Augsburg

Behind Parker Venz last season, Ethan Winkelman was one of the best backups in D3 last season.  22-2 on the year, he was 2nd at the North Central Invite & he nearly majored All American Ian Pepple 17-3.

Kasey Gish
UW-La Crosse

Behind Ben Kawczynski, I can say the same for Kasey Gish that I just said about Ethan Winkelman.  We're talking about a super tough backup that could end up having a standout '25-'26.  A Pete Willson champ two seasons ago, last year he had a 9-8 win over D3 R12'er D.J. Henry.
