2025-2026 NCAA Division II Preview - 133 lbs

Christian Davis
Lander

Only a sophomore, Christian Davis went 34-6 on the year, winning the Super Region II, taking runner-up honors at the Midwest Classic & finishing 3rd in the D2 nation.

James Joplin
Lander

With as good as Christian Davis did last year & with the fact that he'll probably start off '25-'26 ranked #1, it's surreal to think that his toughest competition may very well be in his own room.  James Joplin, a two-time NCAA D2 All-American with finishes of 4th & 3rd, returns to the lineup this season & I believe he'll also be going 133 lbs.   A career record of 63-9.  Very anxious to see how this wrestle-off turns out.

Jimmy Anderson
Ouachita Baptist

23-7 on the year, Jimmy Anderson heads into his senior year a two-time NCAA DII qualifier with Super Region IV finishes of 3rd & 2nd.  4th in the D2 nation, he was also 4th at the Midwest Classic.

A midseason transfer from North Dakota State, Ryan Henningson finished as the Super Region V runner-up & one match shy of D2 All-American honors.

James Wright
Central Missouri

An NCAA D2 R12'er last season, James Wright was also R12 at the Midwest Classic, on believe it or not, a losing record.  5th & 3rd thus far in Super Region IV.

Anthony Sagaris
Lake Erie

A Super Region III runner-up last season, Anthony Sagaris was one match shy of D2 All-American honors.

Brian Melamud
Felician

18-5 on the year, Brian Melamud won a Super Region I title.

Logan Robinson
UNC-Pembroke

Logan Robinson heads into '25-'26 a two-time NCAA DII qualifier, finishing 3rd in last year's Super Region II.

Only a sophomore, Eddie Bowman made the Super Region VI finals last season.

Jakob Romero

Jakob Romero finished 3rd at Super Region VI.

John Provencio
Adams State

20-0 on the year, John Provencio is going to challenge Romero for the starting spot on the Grizzlies' team. A 4-2 victory over qualifier Jakob Romero.

Central Oklahoma

NCAA DII finalist Peter Rolle now out of eligibility, it'll be interesting to see who steps up & becomes the varsity starter for the Bronchos this season.  They have three very good candidates looking for the job.

Shawn Muse owns a 0:34 fall over 2024 DII qualifier Evan Binder & a 1:53 fall over Patrick Allis, who was a four-time DII qualifier/two-time All-American.

Eli Kirk also owns a fall over Evan Binder (4:00) & he owns an 11-2 major decision over All-American James Wright.

Jason Henschel stuck James Wright at the 1:09 mark.

Talk about a triple threat wrestle-off!

Tyson Cook
Pittsburgh-Johnstown

One match shy of NCAA DII qualification for Tyson Cook who was 4th at last year's Super Region I.  On the season had a 12-11 victory over D2 R12'er Anthony Sagaris & an 18-10 major over qualifier Logan Robinson.

Eli Pendergrass
Mount Olive

A lot of young talent in this weight class & Eli Pendergrass is one of them.  As a freshman last season finished one match shy of D2 qualification with a 4th place showing at Super Region II.

Jak Keller
Grand Valley State

23 wins on the season, Jak Keller finished 6th at the Midwest Classic & 4th at the Super Region III.  He had an 8-5 decision over All-American Christian Davis on the season.

Evan Binder
Maryville

An NCAA DII qualifier in 2024, Evan Binder came up one match short of another qualification last season was he finished 4th in Super Region IV.   Also a Midwest Classic place-winner in 2024 with an 8th place finish, Binder won 27 matches last season, one of which was a 10-0 major decision over qualifier J.J. Armstrong.

Chase Beckett

Jevin Foust won 15 matches last season & placed 5th at Super Region IV.

Devin Gomez
Western Colorado

Devin Gomez was 5th in the Super Region VI.

Aidan Sprague
Indianapolis

Aidan Sprague is a rather unique case.  He wrestled very few matches last season, but the fact that he pinned All-American Max Shore at the 3:42 mark sticks out. A preview of things to come?  We'll see.

Dawson Schmit
Upper Iowa

16 wins on the year for Dawson Schmit, one of which was a 13-6 decision over R12'er Ryan Henningson.

Beau Klingensmith
Sioux Falls

A Super Region V runner-up in 2024, Beau Klingensmith came up short of a top 8 finish in the Region last season.  He did have a 6-4 win over R12'er James Wright.
