Wyoming Vs Air Force Preview (12-10-2022)

Let's be honest with ourselves. This past weekend was NOT a good weekend for the Cowboys of Wyoming.  Job Greenwood went 1-2, Chase Zollman failed to place, Cole Moody had a very disappointing tournament & Hayden Hastings didn't have near the result he was looking for. They say what happens in Vegas, stays in Vegas & for Wyoming's sake lets hope that's the issue. Every team has down moments and that very well could have been the case for Wyoming at Cliff Keen. It'll be quite telling as they take on the Falcons of Air Force this weekend.

Here are the top matches to look forward to....

125 lbs
U.R. Garrett Ricks Vs U.R. Tucker Owens

Making your impression in NCAA Division I wrestling is one heck of a task, and in this dual two young 125 lbs'ers have an opportunity to do just that. Wyoming's Garrett Ricks who won an NJCAA title for Western Wyoming is still searching for his defining moment of the season, as Tucker Owens of Air Force looks to build upon his resume. It may not be the win over a ranked wrestler that one would want, but for either wrestler, this will be a good win.

141 lbs
#28 Job Greenwood Vs U.R. Garrett Kuchan

Greenwood & Kuchan met two seasons ago with Greenwood taking a dominating 10-3 decision. I think this meeting will turn out to be much closer.  Kuchan recently scored a huge upset over Lawrence Saenz of Cal Poly & should go into this match with more confidence as well as experience.  This will be much better on the mat than what the rankings are saying it'll be on paper.

149 lbs
U.R. Chase Zollman Vs U.R. Dylan Martinez

Two of the better unranked 149 lbs'ers going at it in the dual as Chase Zollman takes on Dylan Martinez. Martinez by all means as I've said about him before, is probably the 34th best wrestler in the nation right now, right outside of that top #33 ranking. One whose season often reflects ups and downs, he's been wrestling pretty well as of late. At CKLV he finished one match shy of a medal, which included a 6-2 decision over Zollman.

157 lbs
#25 Cole Moody Vs U.R. Giano Petrucelli

Here's where we really get to find out what was going on with Wyoming at CKLV. Cole Moody an NCAA qualifier has looked very solid at various points of his career, but he did not look good at Vegas at all. Per the secrecy of wrestling, all one can do is wonder if it was injury, illness or some other explanation.  Giano Petrucelli nearly majored him 8-1 but Moody did not look like himself at all during the match. While it was only a week ago, I wouldn't at all be surprised to see this match have a completely different result.

174 lbs
#14 Hayden Hastings Vs #26 Sam Wolf

The last Hayden Hastings and Sam Wolf met Hastings won via major decision 8-0. It'll be interesting to see if the Cowboy can once again major the Falcon, or if this time the match will be kept to a decision.
