A little EIWA action this Friday as the Quakers of Pennsylvania will take on the Cadets of Army. Five matches stick out in particularly, as all of the lower weights should be good as will two of the middle/upper weights.
#17 Ryan Miller Vs #13 Eric Berginc 125 lbs |
It was a really rough weekend for Ryan Miller as he was pinned in only 21 seconds & then majored 10-2. In the meantime freshman Eric Berginc remains undefeated with a 13-0 record. As to momentum and confidence, this match favors the Cadet. However, Miller has pulled off some big wins in the past & if we're talking strictly ability, then Berginc is within his league.
#10 Michael Colaiocco Vs U.R. Rich Treanor 133 lbs |
When these two met at last year's EIWA championships, Colaiocco took an 8-0 major decision. As good as Colaiocco is looking this season, we might see another major decision. However, Treanor has looked good at various points himself & he's grown a lot since his first year of collegiate wrestling. Earlier this season he pinned Jason Shaner Jr of Oregon State. It'll be interesting to see if he can keep the match closer with Colaiocco this go round.
U.R. Carmen Ferrante Vs U.R. Julian Sanchez 141 lbs |
Although neither Ferrante or Sanchez are currently ranked at the moment, this will still be a match to watch. The last the two met, Ferrante pulled out a hard fought 4-2 victory. I expect it'll be another barnburner between the two.
U.R. Lucas Revano Vs #28 Dalton Harkins 165 lbs |
It may be Harkins who has the ranking & Revano who does not, but it is the Quaker who owns a 4-3 victory over the Cadet. If Revano can once again defeat Harkins that should propel him into the rankings himself.
#24 Nick Incontrera Vs #21 Ben Pasiuk |
This one is a matter of pride & could easily be the match of the night. A 2021 EIWA finalist Vs a 2022 EIWA finalist. In their only meeting thus far, Incontrera pinned Pasiuk in overtime at the 7:32 mark. In the fight for a good seed in what will be a very competitive conference tournament, there is a lot riding on the line for this match up.
