Gone, Lost & Forgotten: Their Best = Bowling Green

Although they never produced an All American, the Falcons of Bowling Green were rather competitive at the conference level throughout a twenty year period covering the late 50's through the late 70's.  They won three Mid American Conference championships in 1959, 1960 and 1966.

147 lbs
Jim Happel
A three time MAC champion for the Falcons, Happel only lost once in thirty dual matches during his career going 28-1-1. Post his career at Bowling Green, Happel started the wrestling program at Chagrin Falls high school and also coached at Bowling Green high School.

157/160 lbs
Dennis Palmer
Posting a career record of 34-5, Dennis Palmer won three MAC titles for the Falcons in 1964, 1965 and 1966.

Dan Ternes
Also a member of the Falcon baseball program, Dan Ternes was able to participate in two NCAA championships despite only qualifying for the state tournament once while wrestling for Elyria high school.  Post his career at Bowling Green, Ternes coached both wrestling and baseball at Southview High school.  His wrestling teams won sixteen conference titles, with five undefeated seasons and a runner-up finish at the state tournament.  He was named coached of the year in 1993.   His baseball teams made two state appearances.   He also coached youth baseball as well and led teams to national level credentials in 1988, 1989 and 1991.

Jason Liles
A two time NCAA qualifier for the Falcons, Liles went on to have a very successful career in coaching.  While at Montana State Northern, he lead his team to NAIA team titles in 1991 and 1992.  He coached Forty-one All Americans and six national champions.   While at South Dakota State he lead the Jackrabbits to four top four finishes at the NCAA Division II tournament, including two team titles.  Thirty-seven All Americans, 11 NCAA Division II champions and 29 Academic All American honors.
