A 10 team District, what I can tell you about the Great Lakes NJCAA qualifier, is that it'll most likely be dominated by #7 Triton. The Trojans look to come in and take the team title with relative ease. #18 Mott & #24 Joliet should also have good showings.
#10 Jack Guerrero Muskegon 125 |
29-2 on the season, Jack Guerrero recently won his first MCCAA conference title a couple of weeks ago & is the clear favorite to win a Great Lakes District title this Saturday.
#8 Hayden DeMarco Triton 133 |
A tough freshman out of Indiana, Hayden DeMarco has had an outstanding season, including winning the Harper College Open. Considering that Harper is hosting this year's Great Lakes District, DeMarco plans to win another championship this weekend in Palatine, Illinois.
**NOTE** - Not a whole lot of thoughts concerning 141 lbs & 149 lbs. I still wanted to do a write-up though, because I've been following Triton quite a bit this year & I've also taken note of some of the other tough wrestlers from the other teams in the District. Wanted to feature them. So apologies on the lack of info concerning 141 & 149. I did want to preview the rest of the District.
#4 Nate Young Mott 157 |
The Bear has had himself an outstanding first year of collegiate wrestling thus far. Winning both the Albion Invitational & the Art Kraft Memorial, he looks to be our champion at 157 lbs.
#7 Paul Kadlec Joliet 165 |
A Great Lakes District Champion last season, Paul Kadlec has won & placed at various tournaments throughout the season. He looks to once again repeat as champion this weekend.
#3 Mustafa Salimi Triton 174 |
The future international star of Afghanistan wrestling, Mustafa Salimi has done an outstanding job representing the Trojans of Triton this season. Winner of both the Harper Open & the Henry Ford Open, he looks to win the Great Lakes District title this Sunday.
184 lbs |
Rankings highly suggest that our champion here will be Ali Adel of Harper, and for good reason. Adel has had himself an outstanding season. Titles won at Muskie Scramble, Art Kraft Memorial, and the Harper Open. Collected bronze medals at Al Hanke & the Yellow Jacket Open. The guy has proven that he knows how to win. However, he's going to have a fight on his hands for a District title this weekend with Nathan Andrina of Southwest Michigan. Despite being last year's champ, and winning titles at the Patriot Open, the Trine Open & the MCCAA, he is currently unranked. No bother, he's still a title contender this Sunday.
#2 Ghee Rachal Triton 197 |
A Great Lakes District champion last season, Gheen Rachal has collected a lot of silver thus far this season. Runner-up finishes at Art Kraft, Al Hanke, & the Harper Open, he was third at the Henry Ford Open. This weekend he'll look to subside the silver & bronze, and once again go for the gold.
#3 Ryan Boersma Triton HWT |
Competing for the same High School as the Williams brothers (Steve, Joe & T.J.) Ryan Boersma has bullied his way through the HWT division this year, securing his place as not only a threat to the District title this season, but also to the NJCAA title. Thus far gold collected at Art Kraft, Al Hanke, Harper Open & Henry Ford Open, I'd say that we're gonna see gold collected once again at the Great Lakes District.
