NOTE: 141 lbs in NCAA DIII was an extremely fun weight class this year. Not only my favorite in D3, but one of my favorites in all of collegiate wrestling, period. There were a TON of seniors in this class, opening up a lot of opportunity for those in '25-'26. Going to miss this class of wrestlers, they were a lot of fun to watch & keep up with.
Brad Rosen North Central |
4th in the D3 nation two seasons ago, Brad Rosen came up a hair short of All American honors in '24, but came back extremely strong this year, finishing 3rd. 25-3 on the year, had 96 career wins in total. Won the last two Regionals.
Josh Wilson Greensboro |
Once you really understand the magnitude of how incredibly difficult it is to make it to the NCAA DIII championships, then you begin to have the understanding of level accomplishment it is to be a four-tme NCAA DIII All American. Josh Wilson was 5th-8th-1st-5th in the D3 nation, winning the last three Regionals. 122 career wins, he also won the last three Old Dominion Athletic Conference titles.
Ty Bisek Concordia (MN) |
The Cobber had an outstanding career for Concordia (MN), that resulted in being a four-time Regional place-winner & a two-time NCAA Division III All-American. 4th-3rd-5th-1st at the Regional, and 6th & 4th in the D3 nation.
Jacob Reed Ohio Nothern |
I've said it many times. This sport can be very rewarding and triumphant. It can also be outright cruel and rip the heart straight from the chest. I felt sick to my stomach when Jacob Reed was beat out of the NCAA DIII's this year. 3rd-3rd-2nd, I felt at the beginning of the season he was one of the best yet to win a national title. I still feel that way. 123 wins in total, 32-3 on the season, Reed had Regional finishes of 1st-1st-2nd the past three years. Despite how '24-'25 ended, still one of the best to never win a D3 title.
James Rodriguez Castleton |
Here's a guy I'm going to miss following. A kid that always wrestled with a tremendous amount of heart. In his first three Regionals, with qualification on the line, he managed to wrestle-back through the consolations & capture that vital 3rd place finish that qualifies one for the National tournament in this division. As a senior this year, he made the Regional finals. Finishing 8th as a freshman, he was 7th as a sophomore in the D3 nation. Earned 153 wins during his four years as a Spartan.
Jake Eckerele Johnson & Wales |
I've made the observation & I've pointed out on both Twitter & Facebook that the world of NCAA Division III (as well as NCAA Division II & NAIA) wrestling is changing. We're seeing a lot of former Division I wrestlers going down to D3, and because of enormity of the changes within DI wrestling, we're going to start seeing a lot more. This changes the dynamic of D3 wrestling & it changes the level of D3 wrestling. Jake Eckerele transferred to J&W for his final season of eligibility after spending a bulk of his career at Buffalo. Went 21-5 on the year, a Regional champion & one match shy of D3 All American honors.
Luke Hoerle Stevens Tech |
I said earlier that this sport can be very rewarding & I meant it. Luke Hoerle who finished 3rd-1st-1st in the Regionals, was a match short of D3 All American honors as a sophomore & as a junior. It was rewarding to see him finally get that win in the blood round, and earn that award stand finish. 8th in the D3 nation, I believe his final win was win #100.
Sam Lorenz UW-La Crosse |
A three-time Regional place-winner, Sam Lorenz ended his collegiate career a two-time NCAA DIII qualifier. Went 7th-3rd-2nd at Regionals.
Noah Hunt Penn Tech |
91 career victories for Noah Hunt during his collegiate career. Was able to find the award stand all four years of competing at Regionals & qualified for the NCAA DIII championships in his final season. 5th-6th-8th-3rd Regional finishes.
Dylan Phelps Olivet |
29-9 in his final season, Dylan Phelps was one of those guys that often turned it on at the end of the year. A two-time NCAA DIII qualifier these past two years, Phelps earned back-to-back 3rd place finishes at Regionals. Was one match shy of D3 All American honors.
Desmond Diggs Mount St. Joseph |
As I've said many times in the past, this level of wrestling leaves no room for error. Desmond Diggs is a three-time NCAA DIII qualifier, and he missed out on his fourth qualification by one match this year. Not sure what he placed as a freshman, but the last three seasons he was 3rd-2nd-4th in the Regional. Also placed at the last two Pete Willson Invitationals with 8th & 5th place finishes. 84 wins in total, 27 wins on the season.
Jalen Schropp Loras |
Jalen Schropp is a kid that I've been keeping up with since he was in high school. I grew up near where the Schropps are from, and was very familiar with his relation, Nick, who I saw a lot in both wrestling & baseball. Nick was 5th at the Iowa High School State championships back in 2003. This season, Schropp up and disappeared on December 21st. I have no idea why. Hurt? Injured? Sick? I didn't include him in the preview for Regionals because I figured he wasn't going to be participating. Not only did he come back after a two-month layoff, he qualified for nationals! A very rewarding moment as he had been so close in previous seasons. 4th-6th-4th-3rd at the Regionals.
Bobur Berdiyorov New England College |
A standout at Northwest Community College before coming to New England College, Bobur Berdiyorov was an NCAA DIII qualifier for the Pilgrims last season, finishing 2nd at Regionals & one match shy of D3 All American honors. Unfortunately this year didn't go as well, and he finished 7th at Regionals. 25-5 on the year.
Jared Gallub Nebraska-Wesleyan |
A multiple-time All-Conference academically, Jared Gallub was an All American scholar this season. A tough wrestler on the amt, he earned a Pete Willson finish of 6th & a regional finish of 5th.
Robby Palmieri Baldwin Wallace |
Another Scholar All American, Robby Palmieri finished his final season with a 24-9 record. He was 7th & 5th within Regional placings.
