Made a promise at the beginning of last year that in the '23-'24 season JT#1 would start doing coverage of NJCAA wrestling! Seems fairly straightforward. Two year programs. If you were a freshman last season, then you're a sophomore this season. If you were a sophomore last season, you are moving on to a four year school to finish up your last two years of eligibility. Unfortunately, it isn't that simple.
Some of last year's freshmen will be redshirting this season. Then with the whole COVID-19 ordeal, some of last year's 'sophomores' will still be back.
So with that said, take it easy on me if some of these guys listed are redshirting or have already moved on to a four year school!
And of course, unintentionally I'll probably leave off a few names that belong on the list. If so, mention their names. The more the merrier.
Now....
The top returnees in NJCAA wrestling '23-'24 184 lbs!
Antony Tuttle Rochester Tech |
Hard nosed & full of tenacity, trained by Tim Hartung while in high school, Antony Tuttle took his skills & earned himself a 4th place NJCAA finish last season. He'll look to improve upon that finish this year.
Brent Greenfield Ellsworth |
2nd at the North Central District, Brent Greenfield was 7th in the NJCAA last season.
Waytt Powell Cloud County |
The Mesa, Arizona native was 4th in the South Central District & 8th at the NJCAA tournament.
John Colburne Iowa Lakes |
A York Open champion last season, John Colburne was ultimately 3rd in the North Central District & one match shy of NJCAA All American honors.
Blake Jouret Pratt |
Another NJCAA R12'er last season was Blake Jouret who was 3rd in the South Central District.
Andrew Powell Cowley |
While not an NJCAA qualifier last season, Andrew Powell was 3rd at a tough Falcon Invitational. I do believe the two time Oklahoma High school state champ will qualify for the NJCAA tournament this year.
Kolby Larson Iowa Western |
Larson was an NJCAA qualifier for the Reivers last season.
Quentin Saunders Iowa Central |
Saunders was an NJCAA qualifier for the Titans last season.
Rotimi Animashaun Camden County |
Animashaun was an NJCAA qualifier for the Cougars last season.
Jaimeson Shea Nassau |
Despite having never qualified for the high school state championships, Jimeson Shea more than proved that there are no prerequisites in the world of collegiate wrestling. A District champion, he also won a NYS title, an NJCAA qualifier.
Robert Walters Thaddeus Stevens |
Walters was an NJCAA qualifier last season.
Andrew Balukas Clackamas |
2nd in the Western Regional last season, Andrew Balukas was an NJCAA qualifier for the Cougars.
Hayes Dalton Snow |
Dalton was an NJCAA qualifier for the Badgers last season.
Jimmy Colley St Clair |
Colley was an NJCAA qualifier last season, also taking runner-up honors at the Hawks Invitational.

6th in the West Central District, Knoles was an NJCAA qualifier for the Trojans last season.
