2026 PLAINS DISTRICT Preview (Sat Feb 21st)

Hosted by the #3 Western Wyoming Mustangs, the Plains District Title will be a war between Western Wyoming & the #4 Southeast CC Bobcats.  Also look for the #7 Northwest Wyoming to have a strong 3rd place showing.

We have two young rookies looking to battle it out for a Plains District Title here at 125 lbs.  Brandon Baustert a state champion out of Nebraska & Stockton Allen a two-time Oklahoma State champion out of Stillwater.

133

A PAN-AMERICAN bronze medalist, 7th in the NJCAA last season & a RENO runner-up, the accolades keep piling up for Zach Marrero.  This weekend, the goal will become a two-time Plains District champion.  Standing in his way, looking to keep him from that goal will be Miles Anderson, a two-time state champ out of Nebraska.

The NJCAA awards the top 8 All-American status per weight & as to 141 lbs, you're probably looking at 37.5% of those All-Americans right now. Dimitri Alarcon, a Plains District champion last year & an NJCAA runner-up, looks to defend his District title against some stiff competition.  Jeremiah Brown is a state champion out of Michigan & Zach Covolo was 3rd here a year ago, one match shy of being an All-American.

149

We have an exciting final here between two NJCAA title contenders.  Neither one of these guys had the Plains District championship they wanted to in 2025, as Tommy Dalton finished runner-up & Rice had to medical forfeit out due to injury.  Both All-Americans last year (Dalton 2nd & Rice 4th) this could easily also end up being our NJCAA final.

2025 Plains District champion, 2025 NJCAA champion, Keith Smith is going to make some four-year institution very happy in '26-'27.  For right now, he looks to capture more Plains District gold.  Looking to meet him in the finals will Ryder Robinson, one of the many talents that has come out of Heber City, Utah over the years.

165

A Plains District champion last season, Banks Norby who was also one match shy of being an NJCAA All-American last season, looks to defend his title this weekend.  Competition will come from Silas Foster, a two-time Indiana High School state place-winner.

#9
Dylan Scott
Southeast CC
174

Every point counts in what I believe will be an extremely tight team race between Western Wyoming & Southeast CC.  I can't see anyone challenging Dylan Scott for a title here at 174 lbs, thus big points for the Bobcats.  Scott was 3rd here a year ago.

184

Silver at both the Plains District & the NJCAA championships last season, Asad Fayzullaev looks to be gold at both this season.   In order to do so, he's going to have to get past last year's Plains District champion Banks Love.  Again, a likely Plains District finals, which could easily end up an NJCAA final or semi-final depending on seeding.  Look for the Bobcats Jack Doughty to finish a strong 3rd.

197

Ironically enough, 197 lbs should feature a final between two talented transfers.  V.S.L. Montoya competed for Northwest Kansas Tech last season, taking runner-up honors at the South Central District.  Thus far this year, the NJCAA R12'er has looked phenomenal.  Took two-time NCAA DII All-American Jackson Kinsella to a 2-1 match.  His likely finals opponent (and again, we have what could be an NJCAA final or semi-final) will be Trevyn Gates, a Utah native who competed for Purdue last season.

HWT

A Plains District champion last year & 3rd in the NJCAA, Austin Richens looks to try & become a two-time Plains District champion this weekend.  Here to challenge him will be Ira Jenkins,  a two-time Michigan high school state champion & rather skilled pinner.
