Gone, Lost & Forgotten: Their Best = Haverford

When it comes to the history of Black Squirrel wrestling which unfortunately came to an end after the 1976-1977 season, there's one name that clearly sticks out above the rest.

Harry Fields
Harry Fields without question is the best wrestler to ever come out of Haverford.  A two-time NCAA participant, Fields made the NCAA finals in 1931 as a junior.  Post his education at Haverford, Fields put himself through Med school at the University of Pennsylvania by dabbling in professional wrestling on the weekends.  He later became a Gynecologist.

To this day the Pennsylvania Quaker wrestling team still has an annual Dr. Harry Fields award given to a member of the team who shows outstanding academic achievement.

  1. Huge Thank you to former Cornell wrestler James Moffatt for the following addition!!

"Stephen, probably Haverford’s most notable American businessman alumnus, who also was a wrestler, is Norm Pearlstine, captain of their 1964 wrestling team. He is currently the Executive Editor of the LA Times; is formerly the Vice Chairman of Time, Inc and Editor-in-Chief of Time Magazine; and Managing Editor of the Wall Street Journal.
He grew up in Collegeville, PA and wrestled for The Hill School in Pottstown under Hall of Fame coach, Frank Bissell."
