Gone, Lost & Forgotten: Their Best = Elizabeth City State

I haven't been able to find out much about Elizabeth City State wrestling, other than running across two members of their football team over the years, that were also wrestlers.  An historically black college, the Vikings competed in the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association.  Their final season on the mat was 1990-1991.

A.B. Whitfield

A member of the football, wrestling & track teams Whitfield won a total of four CIAA titles.  He won two in wrestling in 1964 & 1965 & he won two in track, throwing the discuss also in 1964 & 1965.

Post college Whitfield played professional football in the short lived Continental Football League for both the Richmond Rebels and the Jersey Jays.

Stephen "Corky" Scott

Also a member of the Viking football team, Corky Scott took seventh place honors at the NCAA Division II tournament in 1983.
